Edward (Ted) Dodd may have benefitted from there being ten fixtures over jumps (as well as the Queen Elizabeth Chase at Hurst Park’s mixed meeting) when he won his one race under National Hunt rules at Hexham on Whit Monday, May 21, 1956.

His partner was the four-year-old Fall Guy, trained by Christopher Tomkins, who had finished second in a selling hurdle at the same venue two days earlier when ridden by Basil Richmond. With the latter having gone to Wetherby, where he had a winner, Ted stepped in to win the Causey Hill Selling Handicap Hurdle by five lengths.
