David Kevin Dalton had just one victory over jumps when Rehoboam won the Wye Valley Handicap Hurdle at Chepstow on February 16, 1949. It was the seven-year-old’s first win in over two years, and even top jockeys such as Aubrey Brabazon and Don Butchers had not been successful on him during that time.

David’s only previous outing on Rehoboam had ended in a fall at Lingfield Park, but now they beat Tommy Thrush, ridden by future leading trainer Bob Turnell, by four lengths, with Le Cure, partnered by another successful trainer of the future, Gordon W. Richards, a length further award in third place, and Epigraph, the mount of Tim Molony, well on his way to becoming champion jockey for the first time, back in fourth. The 27lb the winner was receiving from the runner-up undoubtedly helped contribute to the success.

David rode Rehoboam four more times, the last occasion being when finishing eighth in a Newton Abbot selling hurdle on April 8, 1950. He did not renew his licence for the following season.
