Brian Elder

Brian Elder, from Sutton, Surrey, was born on November 30, 1938, and served a six-year apprenticeship with Staff Ingham.

The earliest ride I can trace for him came at Folkestone when, as a 17-year-old, he rode Landing Craft on July 19, 1955.

Brian named Captain Nick as the best he'd ridden.

He enjoyed riding abroad and, having ridden 42 winners in 16 days, won the Mauritius Championship. He also rode winners in Bombay and South Africa.

Brian was forced to give up riding in 1974, but returned to the fray in 1980.
