Alfred Dalton

Alfred Dalton

Article by Alan Trout

Alfred Dalton rode just one winner over jumps during his two seasons with a licence. He partnered Must Eat, trained at Cottenham, Cambridgeshire by Pat Moore, to win the Coleshill Selling Handicap Hurdle at Warwick on March 2, 1957. It was the six-year-old’s first win of the campaign, with Alfred having been his regular jockey since January.

He had a total of 15 rides that season, achieving one second-place finish in addition to his Warwick victory.

Although having won on Must Eat, he did not keep the ride for the horse’s two subsequent placed outings, nor did he ride any more winners, despite holding a licence for a further season.
