James Davies

National Hunt jockey James Hugh Davies was born on February 25, 1958.

Apprenticed to David Nicholson, he rode his first winner on Tudor Maestro in the Harry Lane Memorial Handicap Hurdle at Sedgefield on March 13, 1979.

He achieved his most important victory when winning the 1983 County Hurdle on Robin Wonder for trainer David Elsworth.

He won the 1982/83 Daily Mirror Conditional Jockeys’ award with 19 wins, narrowly beating Paul Nicholls into second place. Although Nicholls rode more winners (23) during that season, the competition was based on points scored for both wins and places.
