Arthur Duller

1893 - 1914

Arthur John Duller was born in 1893, the two years younger brother of top hurdles jockey George Duller. He was apprenticed to Frank Hartigan and rode his first winner on Bobolink at Alexandra Park on April 1, 1910.

He showed plenty of promise over the next three years and looked like developing into a leading jockey.

He spent a successful riding season in India in 1913-14 but suffered an attack of enteric fever which developed shortly after his return. Arthur died at Epsom Isolation Hospital on April 27, 1914.

He was buried on May 1 at Epsom Cemetery, within sight of the grandstand.

Many well-known racing people were at the graveside. A wreath from the famous owner-trainer Bob Sievier bore the inscription “the race is over; home at last”.
