Maurice Dillon

Born circa 1896, National Hunt jockey Maurice Dillon rode a total of 38 winners in Britain between 1919 and 1924 and was placed in an Irish Grand National.

He had his first ride in Britain on Warbine, who finished second in the Smethwick Selling Chase at Birmingham on November 24, 1919. He did not have to wait long to ride his first winner, less than a month, guiding Kilnoracy to victory in the Makerfield Handicap Chase at Haydock Park on December 19, 1919.

He gained his most important victories when winning the 1920 November Handicap Hurdle at Liverpool on 4-1 favourite Lukeston, and the 1921 Victory Handicap Hurdle at Manchester on Saxham Prince, both of them trained by Stanley Harrison. The following year he finished third in the Irish Grand National on Pam Nut.

Maurice enjoyed his most successful year in 1922 with 16 winners. They included a treble at Haydock on January 7, aboard Stormfruit in the Birchfield Four-Year-Old Hurdle, Meadowcroft in the Station Selling Handicap Hurdle, and Hedu in the White Lodge Chase.

He rode his last British winner on Garrett, the 9-4 on favourite, who got home by three-quarters of a length in the three-runner Knowle Handicap Hurdle at Shirley Park on March 10, 1924.

He had his final ride when unplaced on Pip H in the Stechford Selling Hurdle at Birmingham on January 4, 1926.
