Joe Dillon

1885 - 1967

Born in Co Kerry on 24 October 1885,  Joseph Patrick Dillon was an Edwardian jockey who had seven brothers, six of whom were also jockeys. Bernard, the best known, won the Derby in 1910 on Lemberg.

Joe Dillon served his apprenticeship with Jack Fallon at Druid's Lodge and became first jockey to Walter Nightingall at South Hatch Stables, Epsom.

He rode many winners under both codes including on the continent. His first NH ride was College Queen, which finished second at Lingfield on December 16, 1904.

He later trained in Belgium.

Aged 82, Joe Dillon died in KIngswood, Surrey, on 18 July, 1967
