Gerry Enright

Gerard Patrick Enright, the younger brother of jockeys Tom and John, was born in Co. Limerick on July 4, 1951.

He was apprenticed to Gordon Smyth at the age of 14 and rode his first winner, Promotion Year, at Lingfield on May 19, 1967.

He rode 13 winners on the Flat before turning to jumping. His biggest wins came on Nougat in the 1975 Lanzarote Hurdle and 1976 Imperial Cup. He also won the Kirk and Kirk Hurdle and the SGB Hire Shop Hurdle in 1977 on Kybo.

He later turned to training, sending out horses from his Lewes stable.

His nickname was Geraldo.
