Frank Dilworth

National Hunt jockey Frank Dilworth went close to riding his first winner on three separate occasions, all at Plumpton, during the early part of 1957. Riding a four-year-old hurdler named Salisbury Hill, he finished second in January, third in March, then second again on Easter Monday.

He had to wait four long years before finally achieving success. It came on a novice hurdler called Port at Wye on April 17, 1961. They followed up at Plumpton 16 days later. Plumpton was also the venue for Frank’s third and final winner, Eyes Right on December 4, 1961. A photo of them jumping the last appeared in the next day’s Sporting Life.

Having disappeared from the scene, Frank later renewed his licence and rode for two more seasons, 1969/70 and 1970/71, but had no more winners.

Frank Dilworth’s winners were, in chronological order:

1. Port, Wye, April 17, 1961

2. Port, Plumpton, May 3, 1961

3. Eyes Right, Plumpton, December 4, 1961
