Michael Dyer had just one win under National Hunt rules. It came at Fontwell Park on September 15, 1959, when he rode Monrose to victory by 12 lengths in the Selling Handicap Hurdle. Trained by Ken Bailey, Monrose had had only run once since May 1958, and that was when falling in a novices’ chase at Folkestone in April.

Despite having beaten two far more experienced jockeys in Tony Keen, second on Vicomte, and Josh Gifford, third on Lamont, Michael did not keep the ride. The next time Monrose ran, and won, he was partnered by John Dowling.

Micheal only had seven rides during that 1959/60 campaign and did not manage another winner thereafter, although continuing to hold a licence until the 1961/62 season.
