Chris Dempsey rode over jumps in the early 1990s and had three wins. He was a conditional jockey based with Charlie Brooks but it was for Bill Turner that he had his first victory when, after leading early on the five-year-old French-bred mare Weiss Rose, they came again on the run-in to land the Ivanhoe Novices’ Handicap Hurdle on the all-weather at Lingfield Park on January 12, 1990.
Bill Turner also supplied Chris’s second winner when Pontevecchio Notte led three out and drew clear to take the Ivelchester Hotel Racing Bar Handicap Hurdle at Wincanton on March 30 by 12 lengths. The pair had been beaten a neck at Devon & Exeter eight days earlier and they occupied the same spot in their only outing together after their Wincanton success at Ascot in April.
Weiss Rose and Chris made an excellent start to the 1990/91 season, leading over the final flight and having three lengths to spare at the end of the If You Need It Booker Steed It Handicap Hurdle at Devon & Exeter on October 2. Chris had two more starts on her, finishing second once, albeit beaten a distance. He had nearly 50 rides that season and finished second six times, but there were no more winners.
