Steve Dawson

Steve Dawson was born in Southport, Merseyside, on February 6th, 1963 and often rode for Nick Vigors.

His first win came on Queen Kate at Windsor on August 23, 1980.

A talented rider, he won the 1983 Portland Handicap on Out of Hand for the Newmarket trainer David Dale and looked set to make the grade; however, that was only one of twelve winners Steve rode that season (he had ridden 19 the season before) and his career regressed.

Other horses Steve shone on were Mark Smyly's Sanjarida and Cumrew.

Steve enjoyed a rare big winner in 1984 when riding 40/1 outsider Tom Sharp to victory in the Cesarewitch for trainer Walter Wharton.

Two years later he won a Group 3 race when taking the Bahrain Trophy over Newmarket's July course on Zaubarr for Barry Hills.

His height was 5ft 1 inch
