Sam Darling Jr.

1826 - 1860

Samuel Darling Junior was the son of the Classic winning jockey and was born in Oswestry in 1826.

He finished fourth in the 1850 Grand National on Tipperary Boy and gained his biggest success on Oscar in the 1853 Cheltenham Grand Annual.

Sam had been in a declining state of health for some time before he died at the residence of his father at Bourton-on-the-Hill on November 6, 1860, aged just 34.
