Family/Teacher conferences will be November 7, 2022 8:00am - 4:00pm.
Please send Jennifer Dierkes the following information by October 3, 2022:
Conference type (regular, student led, tea, or open house)
Conference schedule
Lunch and break times
Meeting room #
We will launch the conferences on October 17, 2022 at 8am . Information will be linked to the KJHS website and a school reach call will be sent out. If the parents do not have internet access, they can call the guidance office at 309-557-4899 to set up an appointment.
On the note you send home, please state what type of conference the parent is invited to and if they need to sign up for a conference. The parents do not need to sign up if they are invited to a tea or open house. Please ask the parents that you are wanting to meet with to register using the online scheduler link on the KJHS website. Please email Jennifer Dierkes a copy of the note you are sending home and the list of students invited to the open house/tea so she has it to reference if parents call with questions.
Here are the directions for the online conference scheduler that will be put on the website:
Again this year we are using an online scheduling system to schedule family/teacher conferences. Click on the link under Cougar News or the link under the Parents tab on the KJHS website. Select the conference you want and then enter the student's name, your name, and email address. Next, an email will be sent to you inviting you to sign up for conferences. Click on the link and select the conference(s) you prefer. If you are going to attend a tea or open house you do not need to sign up.
Jennifer has the option of putting in all the teacher’s email addresses so the conference scheduler will send your family/teacher conference schedule to you weekly. If you do not want your email added, please let her know.
Teachers who teach math, L&C, and/or language arts: If you have any students who flagged on the aReading, aMath, or writing benchmarks assessments, please let your team's LBS1 know so they can do a follow up diagnostic. These assessment results will be used to determine students' eligibility for Tier 2 academic interventions.
Unless the team has made another arrangement, students should complete mySAEBRS in advisory on Monday, September 26th. Staff will be given time during the institute day on 9/30 to complete the SAEBRS assessment.
Mark your calendars for our first 22-23 PBIS Out of the Blue!

Don't forget to do the Cougar PRIDE "R" for RESPECT lesson and the Locker Stop "Be on Time" lesson with your students. Teams should have already done these lessons with their students or have a plan to do so by the end of September.
CICO: We will soon be starting Check In, Check Out with select students. We will talk about this process in during the institute day on 9/30.
NCHS and NCWHS Homecoming weeks run back to back this year. Please share the Spirit Week dress up days with your students.
KJ students have the opportunity to apply for the Student Equity Action Team (SEAT) as a student leadership opportunity. Please share the materials below with any interested students. Applications are due 9/30/22.
We have 11 ISU volunteer tutors so far to help support our students. I have you have students that would benefit from some one to one tutoring here at school, please Kim Johnson know. Estimated started date is the first week of October.
Students enrolled in art had masking tape and extra Clorox wipes on their supply lists. If any of those ended up in your room, please send some down to Tricia Reckers. Thanks!
Cougar PRIDE continues and we have moved to "R" for the month of September! Please review the message from the Janel Sebeny, our PBIS Tier 1 coach, that was sent out on 9/8/22:
Attached you will find the Cougar PRIDE "R" for RESPECT lesson and the Locker Stop "Be on Time" lesson. When the PBIS Data Team met, tardies were the #1 infraction documented across the board. One suggestion was to review Locker Stop Expectations. Feel free to make these your own for your team and the specific needs and observations.
Please discuss how you would like to divide teaching these lessons on your academic teams over the next few weeks. We have some funky schedules coming up with the half-day on the 13th and the drill on the 21st, so we just ask these are reviewed by September 23.
Thanks for making KJ a positive place to be! Reach out to a PBIS team member if you have any questions.
The September Family Kingsley Connection was published and sent to KJHS families on September 3rd.
If you are interested in serving on the District Equity Leadership Team, please let Elisa know. There are a few spaces available for interested staff members.
