Dear Kingsley staff,
We hope you are enjoying this beautiful 3 day weekend. Thank you so much for your support this week as the admin team was dealing with some pretty heavy issues. We cannot tell you how fortunate we feel to work with such an amazing team. Enjoy the remainder of today and we'll see you tomorrow!

Here is the PBIS Integrity lesson. It should be taught this week in advisory will only require one advisory period. Many thanks to the PBIS Instructional & Data Teams for their continued work on supporting student behavior by reviewing discipline data and creating lessons that address common issues.
Here is the schedule for our Cycle 2 Data Day, which is schedule for October 17th. Please be sure to complete the recommendations for discussion for your team on the Team Recommendations form by October 15th.
Dine at the Normal Main St Chipotle on Wednesday, October 16, from 4-8 pm and 25% of your order goes to the KJHS PTO. Ordering online? No worries... use the code NHH7N7Y when ordering. See the official flyer for further details.
IWU is hosting Kingsley Night at the Women's Volleyball Game on Friday, October 18th at 6:00 pm. Any student or staff from Kingsley will get in free and family members will only pay $3.00. IWU will host a 50/50 drawing with the proceeds going to Mary Kate Kroesch's family.
It's time to get ready for the "IT IS BETTER TO GIVE THAN RECEIVE" holiday program.
Last year, approximately 150 Unit 5 families were adopted, with support coming from throughout Unit 5. Our hope is that we will be able to help that same number this year.
This is being sent to administrators, counselors, and family coordinators to streamline the nomination process. Please share this information with any other teachers or staff members who may want to nominate a family in need.
To nominate a Unit 5 family, please fill out the following form by Oct. 30. Your family coordinators will have the number of families we are allotting per school.
Please make sure the family you nominate isn't being helped by another organization. We want to make sure to serve as many families in our community as possible.
A COUPLE ISSUES TO NOTE:
1) Please make sure there is a working phone number for the family on the form. We understand things change, but please confirm the number entered at least works as of now.
2) Be as specific as possible when entering information.
3) Try to select families that are not being provided gifts by another organization.
4) If you notice a child only asks for something small, like "colored pencils" please add a few items you think the child might like. We don't want one child getting colored pencils and another getting a light-up skateboard.
5) Please do not wait until the deadline to enter these. We will be working on them as they come in because that portion is extremely daunting.
6) We will be reserving a few spots for move-ins and families who we may not realize need extra support this holiday season. Even if we fill our spots, I have other resources we can reach out to for assistance, so please don't hesitate to ask if you have a family in need and the date has passed.
A separate email will be sent to AllUsers by Nov. 1, which will allow them to participate by donating gifts.
Please SAVE THE DATE for Friday, Dec. 6, 2024, 3-5:30 p.m. at Northpoint Elementary as a drop off location. All donors will pull in the circle drive to drop off their gifts. Volunteers will be carrying gifts inside the building. Wrapped and labeled gifts will be delivered by volunteers to families on Saturday, December 7, 2023 from 8:30-noon. Information about signing up to deliver gifts will be sent in November, as well.
Please reach out if you have questions.
Thanks again and remember, "it is better to give than to receive".

The KJHS PTO is treating KJHS staff to lunch from Jason's Deli. Please place your order by October 20.
First Quarter Celebration
Where will ice cream be located?
Ice cream sandwiches and Italian ice (for those with a dairy allergy) will be located in the Main Street Retreat. Boxes will be labeled with your team on them. Please designate someone from your team to grab your ice cream for social time.
6th grade, your ice cream will be in the black freezer.
7th grade, your ice cream will be in the white freezer.
8th grade, your ice cream will be in Todd's freezer.
Where is my grade assigned for the ice cream social?
Each grade level has a designated spot during 7th or 8th hour:
8th grade-8th hour (south lot)
7th grade- 7th hour (south lot)
6th grade-only 8th hour (north lot)
If your team chooses to run the ice cream social at a different time, that is up to you, but please do not go in a space that has already been assigned.
Special note to 7th grade: We know your time coincides with pictures, but you are more than welcome to have your students eat ice cream during that time.
Restorative Rooms:
Your team should decide how you want to conduct Restore Rooms- keeping students behind, social time but no ice cream, ice cream but no social time
Grade Level Pictures
In addition, we would like to use some time that day to take grade level pictures for the yearbook. This would involve each grade level going out to the football field and forming an assigned letter. We have a drone that can be flown overhead to take the picture. Here is what we are thinking...
Grade Hours Letter
6th 1 & 2 K
7th 7 & 8 J
8th 4 & 5 H
Staff Afternoon S
Please let Elisa know if your team as any issues with this plan for 10/23.

Celebrations would like you to complete this survey for field day. While it is many months away, we know teams start to plan for their end of the year activities.
Unit 5 is providing two Youth Mental Health First Aid training options for staff at the Unit Office this fall. This is a great opportunity for staff to learn about mental health challenges common among their students, how to respond to students experiencing them, and how to connect them to support. Please see the attached flyer and pass it along to staff within your building. The flyer includes a link to the form for you to sign up.
The training will be broken into 2 sessions. Option 1: Oct 17th & 18th 3:30-4:30. Option 2: Nov 6 & Nov 15th 4:30-7:30.
The October sessions will be more focused on the elementary level, while the November sessions will be more focused on secondary level. Anyone is welcome to attend either option and will receive training applicable to all levels.
Congratulations to this week's Kingsley Kudos recipients:

Has a fellow Cougar gone out of their way to help you? Have you seen a staff member who goes above and beyond to make Kingsley a better place to work and learn? Reward them by nominating them for a Kingsley Kudos! It's quick, painless, and brings joy to you and the recipient.
We are seeking 3 KJHS students to serve on the Unit 5 Student Equity Advisory & Action Team (SEAAT) for the 24-25 school year. This team is designed for students with an interest in social justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion who would be willing to share their experience in Unit 5. The team meets in person three times during the school day each year and transportation is provided. If you know of a student who may be interested or would be good to serve on this team, please encourage them to apply.
From Candid Omachel...
Please take a moment to read the Insurance Benefits Newsletter, for October. Each month, we will send a new issue covering important health and wellness information for staff. The newsletter is interactive and includes links to important information. Some links will require that you log into your Unit 5 Google account to access the information.
Please share ideas and topics that you would like to see in the newsletter here.
As always, please feel free to contact us if you have any questions regarding your pay or benefits. We hope you enjoy the newsletter!
Mark your calendars now for a meet and greet with Dr. Weikle on November 14 at 8 am in the KJHS IMC.
There are still a few game duty slots open for the girls basketball season. E-mail Kaleigh if one or more of the open dates works for you and you want to take advantage of this opportunity to earn a little extra money while watching our student athletes in action.
"Boo" started last week. If you do not want to participate, please just pass it on to someone else. You can also put a Boo sign outside your door and we will pass you by.
There are many months still available for teams/departments to sign up to do a Food Day.
Thanks to everyone that has paid dues. We are almost to 60%. Way to go Cougars!
