Yes, I know some of you are surprised that I'm still emailing about this topic....our completion rate isn't yet to the required percentage. Sigh. Now, sadly, you understand why we usually do the 5 Essentials as a whole staff.

Mr. Larson emailed the info below on 2.11. This is just a second reminder since it sometimes takes me a couple reminders before something new sinks in. :-)
We are looking to approach first-hour tardies a little differently moving forward. Why?
When students come to the office for the pass, they are missing more instructional time & interrupting your class a second time (once when they were late & a second time when they return with the pass).
The new coding will help us to determine if it is a student situation or a family situation resulting in the student's tardiness.
What's the new process for 1st hour Tardies?
Students arriving to class late without a pass, who have been in the building:
1. Report directly to class
2. The teacher will mark the student tardy with a "T"
3. To minimize disruptions, students will no longer report to the Main Office for a pass but remain in the classroom
Students arriving late to school after buzzing in:
1. Report directly to the Main Office
2. Sign in & issued a pass from the office to your room
3. Documented as "TRDU"
These codes will help us to determine who is already in the building prior to the start of the school day and who is arriving late due to family situations.
The following steps will be used to address first hour tardies (office managed/reset quarterly):
1. Student conference with Administration
2. Parent communication via phone messaging
3. Discipline measures as deemed necessary for repeat offenses
Review of tardy procedure for 2nd-8th hours (teacher managed/reset quarterly):
1. For each offense mark student "T". Student notified of tardy documentation
2. 2nd offense: Two-way parent communication via email or phone. Teacher/Classroom Detention issued with IC documentation
4. 3rd and future offenses: IC Referral for "Excessive Tardies" to be office managed
8th Grade Only
8-1 & 8-2 Teachers will be giving the IL Science Assessment on 3.7 & 3.8 (schedule here). As a result, 8th grade classes will be on an adjusted schedule those two days.
Shout out to teachers who brainstormed the schedule & drafted it.
When Nurse O'Brien knows of a confirmed positive case, we print the student's schedule & an administrator accesses the seating chart for each class using the seating chart master.
An administrator then visits each area to evaluate & measure the area around where the positive case has occurred to develop a tentative list of close contacts.
We then look at attendance records for all potential close contacts to confirm they were in attendance on the dates of concern. The nurse considers students who are vaccinated. Next we phone all families, print required documentation & directions for them, and greet stressed families as they arrive, helping them process the timelines, make up work routines, and safety considerations.
Sometimes this takes at least an hour or more for each case....all the while our typical ups & downs of the school day occur.
Your accurate & updated seating charts are super helpful. Thank you for taking those extra steps! We appreciate your patience Please know that we so appreciate your patience & understanding while the office juggles these tasks.
