Yep, I'll be super glad when this is no longer a part of our conversations too. :-) #risetogether

Our 6th graders & families - plus fully remote 7th graders - have not been in Kingsley yet. We created several different types of opportunities for families to engage with us in different ways. For one, we could use some help.
Monday, August 9 @9, 11 & 1- I will lead a 15-20 minute Kingsley Welcome & Introduction to mixed, grade-level families who are new to Kingsley. Then families will be given a 20-25 minute, small group tour of Kingsley, we'd gladly have you!
The MS Advisory Task Force has worked hard to create Advisory lessons. Which Advisory students will you get to teach? Check the "AdvisoryTchrsPerStudentTeam" tab on the 21-22 Master Schedule.
If you want to help with Before School Care, please email Kim Mattocks by Aug. 16 at 3 p.m.

How: IT will provide students with their device, a name tag & check devices out to students. This will be a quick process. As soon as students get their devices, immediately begin transitioning them back to classrooms.
No head coverings are allowed that obscure the view of the student’s face. Interpretation and enforcement of this rule is up to administration discretion.
Breathe deeply: Per SRO Annie Frye (repeatedly last year), hats & hoods did not prevent her from identifying students on our cameras. This surprised me, but she took me in her office on more than one occasion to show me. #Iwaswrong
Hair styles, dress, and accessories (scarfs/headbands) that pose a safety hazard are not permitted in the shop, laboratories, or during physical education.
What & why communication about what poses a safety hazard will need to be clearly articulated to families & students in shops, labs & P.E.
Big applause to our hard-working custodians! All floors have been waxed.
The district is not renewing the Premium PearDeck subscription. They are anticipating a NearPod 60-90 day trial for those interested. Optional trainings will be available & shared by Amber at a later time.
After 3 years of effort, our building (finger crossed) is fully rekeyed. Given the lengths this has required, new keys will have a serial number on them & we will keep records of the staff member who has each key.
AA - It no longer works. Stop by the main office to trade your "AA" for a replacement. This applies to every staff member.
Hall 100, 200, 300, 400 & 500 - Your room was rekeyed in years past so your key works for your room still.
Not in 100, 200, 300, 400 or 500? - Bring your room key to the main office to trade for a replacement.
Why rekey, renumber rooms & have new name plates? SAFETY.
Keys: Our entire building had not been rekeyed for 30 years or more & keys records have not been kept. This led to many people having Kingsley keys that do not work here.
Room Numbers: Until a year ago, throughout the entire building, we had 3 numbering systems for rooms which would slow any emergency workers in assisting us if we're ever in need. We are still working on getting a few signs but we made more progress. My goal is this will be fully complete by December. #patience
Name Plates: I hope this is never a factor for us, but if we ever have an intruder, the intruder will not be able to tell the gender of the teacher in each classroom based on the name plate.
Other Safety Items:
Cameras: In the past few years, we have also updated the cameras in our cafeteria & added cameras in multiple locations in the building that had poor viewability previously.
Doors:
New Neuman Gym doors were added this summer that allow us to lock the gym down by simply closing the doors.
An exterior door in the cafe was replaced so it is now metal rather than glass. This prevents anyone from breaking the glass to enter our cafe.
We have a few more items that need to be addressed, but we are making great progress! #progressnotperfection
Yes, we are all still grieving Annie moving onto Rivian but....here is a SRO update.
For 21-22, KJHS, PJHS & CJHS will share two SROs. Below is our schedule.
Monday & Tuesday - Isiah Williams, CJHS SRO
Wednesday & Thursday - Curt Payne, PJHS SRO
Friday - SROs on call as needed
Given our increased # of students, your strong preferences expressed, & the every student being assigned a locker, please keep sharing that students will not carry backpacks, cinch sacks, etc. in 21-22 during the school day from class to class. This is true for every U5 middle school.
Laptop sleeves were on all supply lists. As always, if a student has a 504 or IEP that allows backpack use that will be allowed.
Since last May I have repeatedly shared this with families in the "Kingsley Connections." I am already having conversations with families & getting emails from students on this topic. How many times have we learned that "change is harder for some than others?" (Hmmmmm....is it easier to accept a change we agree with than a change we do not? What does that say about our approach to change? #reflect)
What are my backpack talking points? Feel free to use them. I say something like "I realize that it was convenient for students & can really appreciate that. Last year, we had approximately 320 students in our building at the most; this year, we will have nearly 800. Many classes will be doubled or more in size this year versus last year. As a result of the increased number of bodies in each class & our halls, we cannot add backpacks safely. In this case, safety has to come before convenience."
