Dear Kingsley staff,
If you said to yourself at some point in time this week some variation of "what is wrong with these children?", you are not alone. The combination of a shortened week along with the harvest and full moons proved to be a little much for some of our students. Even with all the chaos, we are so thankful for the smiles, support, and "can do" attitude of the KJHS staff. Keep up the great work!
Elisa, Sylvester, Dennis & Cory
You are not going to want to miss the Kroeschin' Cancer Benefit this coming Friday! The event features a highly entertaining variety show as well as food from local restaurants and a silent auction.

Staff Afternoon S
First Quarter Celebration
Where will ice cream be located?
Ice cream sandwiches and Italian ice (for those with a dairy allergy) will be located in the Main Street Retreat. Boxes will be labeled with your team on them. Please designate someone from your team to grab your ice cream for social time.
6th grade, your ice cream will be in the black freezer.
7th grade, your ice cream will be in the white freezer.
8th grade, your ice cream will be in Todd's freezer.
Where is my grade assigned for the ice cream social?
Each grade level has a designated spot during 7th or 8th hour:
8th grade-8th hour (south lot)
7th grade- 7th hour (south lot)
6th grade-only 8th hour (north lot)
If your team chooses to run the ice cream social at a different time, that is up to you, but please do not go in a space that has already been assigned.
Special note to 7th grade: We know your time coincides with pictures, but you are more than welcome to have your students eat ice cream during that time.
Restorative Rooms:
Your team should decide how you want to conduct Restore Rooms- keeping students behind, social time but no ice cream, ice cream but no social time

~Do you follow Tik Tok and are aware of the Underground Spirit Week trend for Teachers? Well in a nutshell it is a secret spirit day/week where teachers only have a theme they carry out to have fun and see if the kids pick up on it. Like our blue jean day but a bit more crazy :) We are going to try it next Thursday and it will be Pajama Day for teachers only (don't spoil it and tell the students)
~Annual Friendsgiving November 21st Sign up sheet will be out soon. Social Committee will provide paper products and dessert.
~ December will be a very busy month: 7th Grade Food Day (Dec. 6), Secret Santa(Dec. 9-13) Dress Up Calendar the whole month. There will also be a Cookie Exchange (date pending)
~January: 8th Grade Staff Meal and hopefully a staff activity like Escape Room/Bowling/Open Gym

Has a fellow Cougar gone out of their way to help you? Have you seen a staff member who goes above and beyond to make Kingsley a better place to work and learn? Reward them by nominating them for a Kingsley Kudos! It's quick, painless, and brings joy to you and the recipient.
Unit 5 is providing two Youth Mental Health First Aid training options for staff at the Unit Office this fall. This is a great opportunity for staff to learn about mental health challenges common among their students, how to respond to students experiencing them, and how to connect them to support. Please see the attached flyer and pass it along to staff within your building. The flyer includes a link to the form for you to sign up.
The training will be broken into 2 sessions. Option 1: Oct 17th & 18th 3:30-4:30. Option 2: Nov 6 & Nov 15th 4:30-7:30.
The October sessions will be more focused on the elementary level, while the November sessions will be more focused on secondary level. Anyone is welcome to attend either option and will receive training applicable to all levels.
It's time to get ready for the "IT IS BETTER TO GIVE THAN RECEIVE" holiday program.
Last year, approximately 150 Unit 5 families were adopted, with support coming from throughout Unit 5. Our hope is that we will be able to help that same number this year.
This is being sent to administrators, counselors, and family coordinators to streamline the nomination process. Please share this information with any other teachers or staff members who may want to nominate a family in need.
To nominate a Unit 5 family, please fill out the following form by Oct. 30. Your family coordinators will have the number of families we are allotting per school.
Please make sure the family you nominate isn't being helped by another organization. We want to make sure to serve as many families in our community as possible.
A COUPLE ISSUES TO NOTE:
1) Please make sure there is a working phone number for the family on the form. We understand things change, but please confirm the number entered at least works as of now.
2) Be as specific as possible when entering information.
3) Try to select families that are not being provided gifts by another organization.
4) If you notice a child only asks for something small, like "colored pencils" please add a few items you think the child might like. We don't want one child getting colored pencils and another getting a light-up skateboard.
5) Please do not wait until the deadline to enter these. We will be working on them as they come in because that portion is extremely daunting.
6) We will be reserving a few spots for move-ins and families who we may not realize need extra support this holiday season. Even if we fill our spots, I have other resources we can reach out to for assistance, so please don't hesitate to ask if you have a family in need and the date has passed.
A separate email will be sent to AllUsers by Nov. 1, which will allow them to participate by donating gifts.
Please SAVE THE DATE for Friday, Dec. 6, 2024, 3-5:30 p.m. at Northpoint Elementary as a drop off location. All donors will pull in the circle drive to drop off their gifts. Volunteers will be carrying gifts inside the building. Wrapped and labeled gifts will be delivered by volunteers to families on Saturday, December 7, 2023 from 8:30-noon. Information about signing up to deliver gifts will be sent in November, as well.
Please reach out if you have questions.
Thanks again and remember, "it is better to give than to receive".

The newsletter is interactive and includes links to important information. Some links will require that you log into your Unit 5 Google account to access the information.
Please share ideas and topics that you would like to see in the newsletter here.
