• In the student-centered, Know Me Know My Name survey, I asked students "without Googling, what is a Cavalier? In this case, IDK is okay." A small percentage had a close guess with over 1/2 saying IDK. Can you define "Cavalier?" Definitions here.

• I asked P.A.C.K. (Principal's Advisory Council for Kingsley) students their thoughts on our mascot. Their dialogue was fascinating to sit back and listen to. Here are some close-to quotes.

  • • 'A Cavalier is a man. All mascots are men or animals. Name a mascot that's a female. Nope. It's just how it is. An animal is the best chance girls at being a mascot."

    • 'It's a white guy that fights. That doesn't seem right for a school. We should be more....(long pause).....well with everything happening in the world, we should have something different, at least an animal.'

    • 'How did we get that mascot anyway? It doesn't seem like it fits our school.'

    • 'We've been that for a long time. Maybe we should just stay that way. Changing it would be hard and some people wouldn't agree.'

    • 'I'm an athlete and when we're in our team, I think of us as the Cavaliers but I don't really know what it is.'
