The new Middle School Summer School is from mid-June through mid-July, 8:30-11:45 a.m. in the 200/6th grade hallway at KJHS. The summer school has their own principals & administrative assistant who will be located in Main Street Retreat. The summer school main entrance will be in the south lobby. 4 KJHS teachers are a part of the 8-person teaching staff. #waytorepresent
If your classroom is being used for summer school, Stacie has already spoken to your personally.
Cyberattacks: U5 Tech asked that we be especially vigilant about opening links in emails that look suspicious.
Gaggle/Safety Filter: In 20-21, U5 has been using "Gaggle" as a safety net when students search the internet, email, type on a Google doc, etc. an item that flags for safety. Words that might trigger a Gaggle alert are suicide, want to die, bully, kill, etc. KJHS admin researches each Gaggle alert & addresses it with students, parents, &/or staff.
The staff Mascot Transition Committee met on 4.21. We carefully considered student & staff mascot suggestions. Some staff present shared that some students do not want the mascot changed. Stacie met with two student groups on 4.22.
A ballot for the new mascot will be shared with staff and students later this week. Our new mascot for 21-22 will be shared the first week of May. A KJHS Alum has offered to design a new logo for us.
ISU asked me to forward information about their virtual New Teacher Conference hosted for teachers in year 1-4. It is Friday, June 11, 2021, from 8am – 1pm.
Registration is $20 and includes PD credits.
Season 2 for
STUDENTS!
Staff Style: A big thanks to Jen Ritchason for organizing The Masked Cavalier! Many people have smiled thanks to Jen & our fun-loving staff participants!
Student Style: In the final unmasking email to students, students were invited to join in season 2 of The Masked Cavalier, Student Style. Please spread the word.
Students can perform any talent. Their talent can be singing but does not need to be.
Students should create a school-appropriate masked character including covering face, hands, etc.
Students will share their up to 30-second talent video & up to 15-second unmasking by April 29 via a Google Form that will be linked in the email.
The student-style show will be shared the week of May 10. Students will vote for the order in which unmasking occurs. Depending on the number of entries, we will decide the number of episodes....it may be one episode with one unmasking or more.
The district-wide advisory planning committee has been formed. They have had a couple meetings & will meet again on 4.21.21. Have questions? Eric Stegemann, Janel Sebney, & Jenny Snyder are members.

Staff Symptoms & Guidance (updated March 2021) Staff who are fully vaccinated (a minimum of 14 days AFTER the 2nd/last vaccine in the series) can be exempt from quarantine if a family member has symptoms, as long as they do not have any symptoms. Staff can report to work as long as they provide a copy of their vaccination card to you for verification.
Staff Covid Reporting Form: Staff who are exposed to a positive case and would be considered a close contact should still fill out the staff reporting form even if fully vaccinated (a minimum of 14 days AFTER the 2nd/last vaccine in the series) so the monitoring team can determine if quarantine is necessary based on the criteria.
