Happy Friday everyone! We don't know about you but we feel like things are finally beginning to settle down around KJHS. We are seeing the processes and procedures we've all been working so hard to establish becoming common practices and, with a few exceptions, the students are doing school the way it should be done. So, congratulate yourselves on a job well done, keep up the great work and enjoy your weekend!

October 23rd is scheduled to be our 1st quarter PBIS rewards day with students earning the reward receiving freeze pops or ice cream for having no ISS, no OSS, and no more than 4 detentions.
In addition, we would like to use some time that day to take grade level pictures for the yearbook. This would involve each grade level going out to the football field and forming an assigned letter. We have a drone that can be flown overhead to take the picture. Here is what we are thinking...
Grade Hours Letter

Dear Unit 5 Staff,
I hope this message finds your school year off to a great start. As we continue our commitment to maintaining a safe and secure learning environment, I want to take a moment to remind everyone of a few important safety procedures.
As part of our district directive and best practices, please ensure all doors remain secure at all times. Classroom doors should always be staged in a locked position to allow for quick and easy securing in an emergency. No doors should ever be propped open by artificial means, such as magnets, door blocks, or any device that prevents the door latch from engaging properly. These measures are vital to maintaining a safe environment.
Also, as a reminder, the use of your key card and/or keys is strictly for your own access. For safety reasons, Unit 5 prohibits anyone else, including students, family members, or any other individual, from using your keys. This rule helps us maintain controlled access to our buildings, and ensures that we are all doing our part to protect the safety and security of our school community. Violation of this rule could result in disciplinary action.
If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out, hills@unit5.org.
Thank you for your attention to this important matter and for your ongoing efforts in keeping our schools safe and secure.
Respectfully,
Shane Hill, Unit 5 Director of Safety and Security

We have several students that have break passes as a support in their IEP/504 or may be getting a break pass as a Tier 2 intervention. We are working on formalizing the process of issuing and tracking break passes. As soon as that process is formalized, we will let you know. In the meantime, you can see students who have been issued break passes listed on the KJHS Stashboard under "Interventions".
New SEL Intervention Alert! Lunch Bunch meetings "provide students with a space to both make connections with peers as well as work towards specific social-emotional goals during a regular lunchtime meeting with peers and a caring adult." (Panorama Education)
If you know a student who would benefit from being included in a Lunch Bunch group, please nominate them for consideration using this form.
