Here is a combination of all COVID procedures in one place.
If you would like to join other Kingsley staff to develop personal equity PD to implement second semester, please email Stacie.
Prior to Winter Break, we will be doing some fun and festive things for staff-only and some for staff & students. As in past years, we will host a spirit week Dec. 14-18.
I met with P.A.C.K. last week & they had some great insights on a few things. Below is student feedback.
Brain Breaks & Socialization:
They expressed a need to connect to peers.
They shared how much they love when staff does "fun activities like in the beginning of remote."
My reflection: Let's test run an idea! (If it fails, so what?! We learn from beautiful mistakes - especially when no one is hurt by them.) Once a week during the 2-2:10 brain break, admin will lead an activity for students to join in on or not - totally optional. Each grade level will have a different day of the week (6th Tuesday, 7th Thursday & 8th Friday). On Monday, students will be sent a Google Classroom invite for their grade-level to join the optional, break break activity.
Cameras & Breakout Rooms:
When in a whole class Meet, students feel they are "spotlighted" and focused on more if their camera is on. They said "If a kid has their camera on then they get called on more."
They have anxiety about speaking - so not muted - and even more when they are on camera. Why? (Yep, I asked.) "It feels awkward to watch myself & know everyone is listening. It's like I'm on TV." Hmmmmm....intersting perspective. I can't say that I love looking at myself while participating in a meeting either.
My reflection: Wow. Pause. After listening, I thought about how awkward it is to be a middle schooler. They are self conscious - in person or remote. Add on that they are taking academic risks when sharing verbally & they are watching themselves do it.
Every parent and student loves to hang positive notes on the refrigerator!
If your students are doing something awesome, complete this form and the main office will mail it to the family for you. We've sent 90 this year!
