Thank you for another great week! We appreciate how staff has been in the hallway and using the color-coded passes to help monitor and reduce student movement in the hallway. Thank you as well for all the positive feedback you have given us. Have a great weekend and enjoy Food Truck Friday!
Elisa, Sylvester, Dennis & Cory
If you are holding class other than in your assigned room on a particular day, please call or email Barb/Kim/Val to let them know so we can track down students as needed. Also, if you are wanting to reserve a space for your class or after school activity (besides your room), please complete the Kingsley Building Use Request form. If you want to use PE indoor or outdoor spaces and/or equipment during the school day, please use the Gym & Outdoor Space Use form.
If you have anything to go in the September Kingsley Connection that will go out to families next week, please get that information to Elisa by the end of the day on Monday, August 29.
Please complete the "KJHS Staff Team Interest Survey" if you are interested in serving on any of the school-wide staff teams discussed during institute last week (School Growth Team, Wellness Team, CORE Team, or K Cart Support Team). If you are interested on serving on PBIS Tier 1 in any capacity (data team, instructional team, or celebrations team), please contact Janele Sebeny. If you are interested in serving on the social committee, please contact Anita Holland.
School service is not required but is a great way to interact with KJHS colleagues that you may not normally get to see and have a voice in what happens here at KJ. As a bonus, serving on one or more of these school teams can provide quality evidence for components 4d, 4e, and 4f of the Danielson Framework. Please complete the survey by Friday, September 2. Elisa will contact interested staff after Labor Day to set up meetings for the year.
Amber O'Day has a collaborative colleague program to work with teachers who are interested in integrating technology into their curriculum. She will work with you on achieving the goals which you have setup for yourselves. She will be setting up appointments after Labor Day. If you are interested, please fill out this form.
We just want to draw your attention to a few forms that have been added the "Students" Section of the KJHS Staff Dashboard.
22-23 No Photo List: Please check this for students in your class whose image cannot be used in school virtual or paper publications.
22-23 No Field Trip List: Please note if you have any students who cannot go on field trips.
Counselor Appointment Form: Please have students use this form to make an appointment with their guidance counselor.
We will have a brief faculty meeting (8:05-8:25) on Friday, September 2, in the KJHS IMC.
Please be sure to archive Google Classrooms you are not using so they disappear for former students. Once you have done so, please go into Archive and delete all the classes you don't need anymore. Here's a video on how to do this.
FastBridge testing window for KJHS is 8/29 - 9/9. Please mark your team's testing dates and class periods on the 22-23 FastBridge Testing Sign Up sheet. Makeup dates will be added to that document soon.
A few follow up notes before heading into testing.
There is an Illuminate Cheat Sheet which covers the basics about giving the assessment and accessing different features of FastBridge. I would have this printed and accessible before you and begin testing.
There is a link within that document for aReading & aMath Tips & Troubleshooting which covers some things proctors and students could run into during testing. I will add both to the staff dashboard.
Students do need headphones as test items and the instruction are read to them.
Makeups will be handled by individual teams.
Remember our coaches are here to help! Please reach out with questions to make sure you are prepared for testing. Thank you!
Thanks to everyone for completing the Google form to report Registered School Organizations! Here is the list of our current RSOs. If we are missing any, please let Elisa know.
Just a reminder to complete the KJHS Field Trip Form if you are planning to take students off site. Also, if you require bussing, please keep the following things in mind...
Transportation must be requested at least 2 weeks ahead of time.
The last 2 weeks of the school year will be blacked out.
Students will be required to use a Z-Pass for trips.
Bussing is limited to between 9 am and 2 pm and after 4:30 pm. Few exceptions to this will be made.
For 6th grade teachers... I.W.U. is looking for field placements for their IWU education majors. They have several elementary education majors who will be licensed 1st-6th grade, but are pursuing a Middle School endorsement in one or more subjects. They would like to give them some Middle School experience at the 6th grade level if possible. If you are interested in hosting one of these students, please complete the 6th grade teacher interest form: https://forms.gle/8eBshSGKxyvstd1s9 .
Visitors to our building should enter and exit through the main entrance (Door A, east side of the building off of Kingsley Street). While we understand this is inconvenient for parking, it is paramount to safety. Please remind any parents you meet with to sign out in the main office when they leave.
ISU is once again offering tutoring services in reading and math for students. We will be sending this information out to families but want you to be aware as well.
ARAC Tutoring services (English) ARAC Tutoring Services (Spanish)
Thanks to everyone who is helping Elisa meet her goal of telling the Kingsley story in social media by sending her pictures! Please keep this up - it is so appreciated!
Click here for this year's math training schedule. The math training for this year is again an expectation for all middle school math teachers and LBS1's with a self-contained math class. Please place your request for a sub immediately so that your class may get covered. Please let Dan Lamboley and Elisa know if you are unable to attend training and/or if you have difficulty with securing a sub.
