As we move through the year, we will have students absent, sometimes for up to 14 days. If all parents are calling the office to request make up work from you, it may become overwhelming. Therefore, sending a common message to families that school work can be accessed digitally through Google Classrooms & an overview on the Assignment Portal will help families know where to get assignments & hopefully, elevate some emails for you.
Below is a draft, created with input from some teachers, of make up assignment communication.
How Can We Get Make-up Work during an Absence?
Google Classroom: For lesson materials & individual assignments, visit each teacher’s Google Classroom.
Assignment Portal: For an overview of classwork & assignments, visit the "Assignment Portal" for your child's team & teachers.
After visiting Google Classrooms and the "Assignment Portal,” email the teacher if there are questions about specific assignments.
In rare cases, to participate in learning, students need physical materials, such as watercolors for art, a new book for Literature & Composition, needle and thread for Family & Consumer Science, etc. In those rare cases, teachers will email families regarding materials pick up.
When is make-up work due after an absence?
In general, students are allowed the number of days of their absence, not to exceed 5 school days.
If students are feeling up to it, they need to work on assignments during their absence.

Each assessment is designed to take 20-30 minutes. Lindsay O'Brien, our FastBridge/Illuminate coach is here to help. Please reach out to her with questions to prepare for testing. Helpful Info:
Illuminate Cheat Sheet: Basics about giving the assessment & accessing FastBridge features. It's advisable to review it & have it available during testing. If you print it, there are multiple links to print too.
aReading & aMath Tips & Troubleshooting: Covers things proctors and students could run into during testing. Print prior or have accessible during testing.
FAQ document: Coaches submitted your questions from Institute & the questions have been answered here.
Students need headphones as test items and the instructions are read to them.
You will not need to sit by your device to monitor a dashboard to resume a test or see who is speeding through. The only way you'll be able to encourage students to slow down is by walking around and monitoring.
If a student takes the test too quickly (aka random guessing), their results will show invalid after they finish; they will be scheduled to retake the test. Please share this information with students.

How can you help?
Join the KJHS Promise Council Shout Out list.
When we discover a student need, we will send an email to all Promise Council Shout Out members. If you can help, reply to the email; if you can't help, delete the email & know another opportunity will arise. That's all it takes!
If you have not read & signed off on the BOE Policies, Administrative Procedures, & Exhibits linked here, please do so ASAP.
