Oct. 22, 8am-4pm with a 30-minute lunch & 2 15-minute breaks
Oct. 5 PTCFast for family sign up will open. This is the same system we've used in the past.
Offer virtual & in-person
For virtual meetings, please tell Jennifer if you are sending links to families or if you are using 1 link with a waiting room. If you are using one link, just like last year we will send that link to families on your behalf. If you'd prefer each family have their own link, please plan to send those to each family.
You may have special invites for a Tea with the Teachers, Coffee at Kingsley, Donuts with Grownups, Muffins in the Morning, etc.
Action Items:
By Friday, 9.24 - Send your conference schedule to Jennifer, including virtual meetings format
Although I emailed this to staff last Friday, here is the email that went to families on Friday morning.
Thank you to Teams who will be sharing a lesson on Code Switching this week.
A shout out to Exploratory who will be encouraging students to 'if you see something, say something' by showing the "What's Up Kingsley" reporting for video. This video & admin emails were sent to all KJHS families & is linked to our website.
We knew this year would be unique; I'm not sure I was prepared for what "unique" would look like. How about you? Well...we're not alone so let's listen, create some solutions to try, & problem solve together.
If you'd like to come talk about concerns, suggest possible solutions & try some things out, mark your calendar for Tuesday from 8-8:25. Where? TBA, Google Invite to come on Monday with a location
Do not put yourself in harms way by getting between two students throwing punches. Instead, use your voice to give 1-2 word directions, such as "STOP" or "MOVE AWAY" - repeat the same words until students follow directions.
When people fight, they are full on "red" & using the most primitive part of their brain, legitimate "fight or flight." Get the students to separate areas with few students.
Call for help & have someone get an administrator or SRO.
AFTERWARDS....this is the part we forget sometimes. Give yourself permission to deescalate & get regulated again. Yes, you may go right back into a classroom but if you need to adjust your lesson to create 5 minutes of quiet work time so you can sit at your desk and pretend to write or type, give yourself permission to take those few minutes.
When Nurse O'Brien knows of a confirmed positive case, we print the student's schedule & an administrator accesses the seating chart for each class using the seating chart master.
An administrator then visits each area to evaluate & measure the area around where the positive case has occurred to develop a tentative list of close contacts.
We then look at attendance records for all potential close contacts to confirm they were in attendance on the dates of concern. Next we phone all families, print required documentation & directions for them, and greet stressed families as they arrive, helping them process the timelines, make up work routines, and safety considerations.
Sometimes this takes at least an hour or more for each case....all the while our typical ups & downs of the school day occur.
Your accurate & updated seating charts are super helpful. Thank you for taking those extra steps! We appreciate your patience Please know that we so appreciate your patience & understanding while the office juggles these tasks.
