Lent: The Road to Resurrection
Ash Wednesday is next Wednesday, February 18. Please join us at one of our three masses- 8:15am, 12pm, 6:30pm.
The 7th/8th grade Musical Theater/ Guitar electives classes will present a concert on Thursday, February 19 at 1:45 p.m. in the church. Families are invited to attend.
Each Lent, Catholic families across the country unite to put their faith into action through prayer, fasting and almsgiving. Through CRS Rice Bowl, families learn about how our sisters and brothers across the globe overcome hardships like hunger and climate change, and how through Lenten alms, we have the power to make the world wl a better place for all.
Rice bowls will be sent home next week. On Fridays during Lent, students are invited to bring in coins for our Catholic Relief Services Rice Bowl Penny Challenge. Each grade will have a jug in the cafeteria during morning carpool. Individual rice bowls returned the week of March 30 will earn extra points towards the homeroom total. Please label with child's name and homeroom.

Dear Parents/ Guardians,
Our students shine with a love for the faith, and our Catholic Identity is strong here at Saint Gabriel School! We have a strong partnership with our Director of Faith Formation, Kathy Abell and amazing teachers. We believe that all teachers are religion teachers whether or not they teach religion as a subject. Our teachers model Christ-like interactions daily and bring the face of Christ to our students. Through their words, actions, and care for each child, our teachers help form not only strong students, but compassionate disciples. Here are some ways we demonstrate our Catholic Identity:
We begin and end each day with prayer.
Students plan and lead mass each week- even Kindergarten students- and lead all ministries within the masses.
All Kindergarten and first grade students have Catechesis of the Good Shepherd as a Unique class weekly
All grades participate in Eucharistic adoration at least monthly
Eucharistic procession during Feast of St. Gabriel spirit week
3rd grade planned the Living Rosary in October
8th graders will be leading the school in Stations of the Cross during Lent
2nd grade will be planning the May Crowning in May
2nd graders made their First Reconciliation in February and will be making their First Eucharist in April
8th graders will be making Confirmation in May
We have several of our Gabriel school students on their journey to become Catholic within OCIA (Order of Christian Initiation for Adults/ Children). Several of our teachers have accepted the call to serve as sponsors.
"Let Your Light Shine" school theme
Friendzy Friday lessons (Friendzy is a biblically-based Social-Emotional Learning program)

Research shows that faith has a positive impact:
When children have a strong faith life, it can help support their emotional and social well-being. Faith involvement, including attending religious activities and practicing beliefs at home, is linked with lower levels of anxiety, fewer behavioral problems, and better emotional resilience. Faith gives kids a sense of purpose, moral guidance, and community support that helps them thrive both in school and in life. 1
Studies show that spiritual well-being, a sense of connection to something bigger than oneself, is tied to greater inner peace, resilience, and life satisfaction for children. Kids who feel spiritually grounded are better able to cope with stress, form meaningful friendships, and feel supported when facing challenges. 2
When children feel part of a faith community and practice spiritual values, studies suggest they are more likely to feel happy, hopeful, and connected. Faith encourages meaningful connections with others, promotes positive values, and can help children feel that life has purpose and meaning. 3
We invite you to continue the faith conversation at home. Lent is a great time to talk about faith and the traditions of our Church. No matter if you are Catholic or not, all are welcome at Saint Gabriel. Thank you for your partnership in your child’s journey.
Blessings,
Lara Krill

Thank you to our families for working with us during carpool with the cold and snow. Here are some friendly reminders to keep everyone safe and things moving as quickly as possible:
Please respect school staff. They are there to keep you safe. We have hundreds of cars to manage, which only happens smoothly when everyone follows the rules.
Please drive slowly, especially in the back by the play park.
Please refrain from using your cell phone while driving.
If you are picking up a preschool student, please make sure that you are checked in before leaving your car to do so.
Please pull all the way up to the cones and pull in close to one another so we can maximize our space.
Make sure to use the app or at least have your number readily available.
If you are in wave 2, patiently remain in your car. Students are not allowed passed the cones.

Would you like to try something different for Lent? Fr. Jason invites the Gabriel family to pray daily and memorize Psalm 24 as a way to prepare for Easter. In adopting this challenge, we would be "giving up" the precious gift of time and "offering up" a communal prayer of praising Christ in our lives. If you would like to join the Gabriel Lent Challenge, here is the website link for Psalm 24: www.stgabriel.net/psalm24.
