Saint Gabriel School Weekly Newsletter for Parents
Saint Gabriel School Weekly Newsletter for Parents
Dear Parents/Guardians,
We are diving into the last Friendzy unit. This year students learned how to create and maintain healthy friendships. We know friendships take work - this last month we are teaching students what it means when we say the phrase I AM FOR YOU and how to live it out in order to be a supportive friend.
Catchphrase (main point for students to catch on to):
I Am For You
Key Verses (Biblical anchor points):
Hebrews 10:24 (NLT) “Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works.”
Galatians 6:2 “Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.”
Continue the Conversation at Home:
I am for you. Jesus asks us to help carry each other’s burdens. We are not meant to do life alone, but help each other out when life is hard. Part of being a good friend and a Christ follower means we carry each other’s burdens; we help each other when things are hard. It can also mean that we walk through the hard times by their side. We stay in the friendship and do our best to help and support them.
Seek to understand how others are feeling. When you understand others' stories, it will become clear how you can help. Ask questions and listen when they talk.
Practice empathy. Empathy is the ability to understand how someone else is
feeling. To practice empathy you have to put yourself in the person’s shoes. How
might they be feeling? What might they be thinking? Practicing empathy helps us
connect to others.
Take action. Compassion is empathy in action. Encourage them with your words.
Pray for them. Ask how you can help. Offer them what you can.
I GET BY WITH A LITTLE HELP FROM MY FRIENDS /// We live in a culture of independence, blaze your own trail, and get it done by your own strength. Yet God designed us to need each other. We are to help carry each other's burdens - this means we help others and we ask others for help when we need it. Share with your student a time you asked for help or should have asked for help but did not.
When kids learn friendship, they learn it for life!
Blessings,
Sarah Eaton

Spring MAP testing began April 10. Please make an extra effort to ensure your child arrives on time, eats breakfast, and has a snack on testing days. While MAP is only one snapshot of how your child is doing, it does provide valuable data to help teachers plan instruction to meet your child's learning needs and evaluate our academic program. NEW: Students may bring mints on their testing days (no gum or other candy).
Parents/guests are invited to join us for our annual Derby Days celebration on May 2, 2024. See flyer for more information.

The month of May is a time when we honor and remember the Mother of Our Church, Mary. On Wednesday, May 8th at 8:15 am, we will be having a Mary Crowning Service in the Church! Parents and family are welcome to attend. Second graders will be leading this service, and a few of our eighth-grade students have volunteered to help the second graders lead us in the Rosary. All students (K-8) will need to bring 1 long stemmed flower to school on May 8. We will use these to place around Mary. One student from each homeroom will process in with a vase of flowers from that homeroom to adorn Mary. Please bring these flowers in on the morning of May 8, and have the students take then to their homeroom teacher.
Our Bells and Guitar elective classes would like to show off all their hard work! Join us for this special concert on May 7 at 9:15 a.m. in the church.
