The Facilities department serves the needs of 109 employees, 683 students and over 6,000 parishioners daily. This campus operates at least 15 hours a day, seven days a week. We are on call 24/7 to address emergency maintenance and repair issues. As always, we strive to make a cleaner, safer, more attractive campus, while being fiscally responsible with the resources we are provided. A four-person facilities team oversees the maintenance requests, improvement projects and facilities-related vendors for our campus.
This year brought more change and improvement for our facilities team.
Last June 2023, we implemented an online maintenance request process. We can track requests and completion dates. We received 505 requests this year, primarily from the school, and have completed 94% of those requests to date. Some requests are new, others require specialized parts or resources, or were determined to be unviable at this time.
Summers are busy for our Facilities department. Last Summer, May – August 2023, the Facilities team made significant campus improvements that improved the experience within our school:
a refresh of the STEM lab
new paint and epoxy flooring in eight classrooms
new door hardware for 17 classrooms for additional safety
installation of three new HVAC pumps
the installation of a new HVAC unit
the relocation and set up of permanent housing for Fr. Jithin
In September 2023, Director of Operations Amanda Wolz, hired Facilities Manager Ricky Murphy to oversee the maintenance and repair of our campus. The role had been open since March 2022 with Amanda and Maintenance Technician Freeman Parker overseeing the facilities workload. Ricky previously worked at St. Gabriel before assuming the role of a Facilities Manager at another parish. He returned to his home parish, and he takes great pride in completing work in a timely manner and improving the cleanliness of our campus. Ricky is a proven leader and problem solver. We are so happy to have him return to us.
In February 2024, the Facilities department sent out a janitorial survey to identify areas for improved cleanliness and sanitation within our school. Ricky is working to address that feedback.
In April 2024, we completed a refresh of our gymnasium, including the install of new bleacher seats, painting the bathrooms, new wall pads, and an electronic concession stand sign. Over 59,000 people walk into our gym annually as sports spectators and event visitors. We want our best foot forward.
This Summer 2024, we embark on a major renovation of the STEM lab, teacher lounge and Preschool Annex. Our teachers will have a new lounge, and our students will have a state-of-the-art STEM lab. Additionally, we are reconfiguring our Preschool Annex classrooms to allow for 20 more students off our 30 student waiting list.
We remain committed to providing excellent facility experience for our community!
