FACILITIES UPDATE
As the school year winds down, the facilities work ramps up! Our facilities team makes the most of the 10-week summer break to complete renovation projects, routine preventative maintenance and cleaning, while still serving our Preschool, Summer Campers and the Parish Office Staff who work and operate year-round.
This year, we will continue with existing renovations, and a few new ones. When the students return in August, the building will have a fresh face in several areas.
Renovations/Repairs:
Classroom Refresh: Two more classrooms will get epoxy flooring and new paint in Art and Science Lab. Epoxy flooring will also be installed in the primary hallway (1st – 6th grade).
Nazareth Center: The hallway epoxy flooring will be completed with epoxy cove base that was started over Spring Break. With a fresh coat of paint on the walls.
Pre- K: Will have a new HVAC system installed to replace the 20-year-old unit.
Jr.High Area: Classroom will receive some drywall repair work. The restroom will have damaged wall tile repaired. A new HVAC unit will be installed for the 8th grade classroom.
Cafeteria: The cafeteria restroom will be renovated with new sinks, hand dryers and restroom partition walls. Walls will get a fresh coat of paint.
Playpark: The playpark will undergo a refresh starting with pressure washing, paint, mulch and equipment maintenance. Removal of dead tree and wood stage.
Parking Lot: The parking lot will receive a refresh with patch repair, seal coating and restriping of parking lines.
As always, unexpected building issues, vendor and supply delays could move some completion dates.
Preventative Maintenance and Repair:
Floor Cleaning: All VCT floors and Carpet in the school, parish office and MPB will be stripped, waxed and cleaned. The epoxy floors will receive cleaning treatment as well.
Classroom Maintenance: Teachers will submit requests for repair, and we will complete those throughout the summer. Then, our cleaning contractor will come in at the beginning of August to do a once-over in each classroom that was cleaned over summer by maintenance staff.
Air Filters: Air Filters are changed in every area of the campus, including the registers in all classrooms.
Air Handlers: Evaporator coils will be cleaned in all classrooms for better airflow during cooling and heating season.
Lighting: All lighting is gradually converted to cool white LED light. This project began in 2022.
How Can You Help:
Throughout the summer, furniture is moved out of spaces so that floors can be waxed, and then the furniture is moved back in the space. A crew of four to five people can get the daily work done in an hour. We could use your help as our facilities team is a team of four.
Two weeks prior to the start of school, there is a flurry of activity and maintenance requests. We could use help from teens and high school volunteers, along with parents, to assist us in assisting school faculty and staff. Desk and chairs needs to be moved to rooms based upon class count, books need to be delivered to classrooms, furniture built, supplies delivered to various locations and endless amounts of cardboard broken down and taken out.
Many hands make light work. Email Ricky Murphy at rmurphy@stgabriel.net if you are willing to help. Teens and highs schoolers earn service hours for this kind of work.

Wow! Thank you for renewing your commitment to our parish and community.
Can you feel the same positive energy that we do? Our parish is growing and thriving with six-eight new families a month. We welcomed 48 people to our faith (largest in the Archdiocese) at the Easter Vigil and 64 young adults were confirmed this month.
And we've had $190,586 in new monetary commitments to allow us to grow outreach programs, dive deeper into our faith-based programs and enhance our facilities.
We just can't thank our Gabriel community enough. You REALLY want to be a part of this! #wherethespiritsoars
Each year, we ask each preschool and school family to sell raffle tickets prior to the event. The raffle makes up 50% of the profit for the event. Our goal is to sell at least 4000 tickets - $40,000 - this year, and to make over $60,000 in total from the event. Your support is critical.
The proceeds from the festival have been used for projects that improve the school and preschool buildings for the last 12 years. This year, we will use the proceeds to complete our school epoxy floors, distribute emergency safety kits to each classroom and upgrade our playpark.
Please return all your sold and unsold tickets by Friday, May 16th. Place your tickets and money in a sealed marked envelope with your child’s name, grade and homeroom teacher. If you have more than one child participating, please put all the student names, grades and homerooms. If you’d like additional chances, email festival@stgabriel.net or let the preschool administration know. We will get a packet to you within 48 hours.
