Saint Gabriel School Weekly Newsletter for Parents
Saint Gabriel School Weekly Newsletter for Parents
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Lent is a 40 day season of prayer, fasting, and almsgiving that begins on Ash Wednesday and ends at sundown on Holy Thursday. It's a period of preparation to celebrate the Lord's Resurrection at Easter. As we enter the season of Lent, here are some ways you and your family can participate in this meaningful time of reflection and preparation for Easter.
1. Daily Reflections: Encourage your child to spend a few minutes each day reflecting on the gifts from God and something they are grateful for.
2. Acts of Kindness: Suggest small acts of kindness that your child can do each day to spread love and kindness.
3. Family Prayer Time: Set aside time as a family to pray together
4. Rice Bowl Penny Challenge: Each homeroom will be participating in a penny challenge. This will assist the poor in our community and in the developing world. The money will be included in St. Gabriel’s donation to Catholic Relief Services.
I believe that by actively engaging in Lenten practices, your child can grow spiritually and develop a deeper appreciation for the significance of Easter. Thank you for your partnership in nurturing your child's faith journey.
Blessings,
Denise Chancellor
Learning Coordinator
Each Lent, Catholic families across the country unite to put their faith into action through prayer, fasting and almsgiving. Through CRS Rice Bowl, families learn about how our sisters and brothers across the globe overcome hardships like hunger and climate change, and how through Lenten alms, we have the power to make the world a better place for all.
Rice bowls were sent home this week. On Fridays during Lent, students are invited to bring in coins for our Catholic Relief Services Rice Bowl Penny Challenge. Each homeroom will have a jug in the cafeteria during morning carpool. Individual rice bowls returned the week of March 25 will earn extra points towards the homeroom total. Please label with child's name and homeroom.
The 8th grade students will lead K-8 students in the Stations of the Cross during Lent on Fridays, March 1, 8, and 22. All sessions will begin at 1:45 p.m. in the church.
March will be our 3rd annual Celebrate Our Differences month. The goal of Celebrate Our Differences month is to build awareness of populations who are different from ourselves and gain an appreciation for each other. Each grade level will hear from a guest speaker. Topics range from disabilities to diversity. For a complete schedule of speakers, click here.
Students in K-5 and their families are invited to participate in Spring Into Math night hosted by Mathnasium. Event will be Wednesday, March 6 from 6-7 p.m. in the cafeteria. Flyers with RSVP information will be sent home with your child.
This year parents/ guardians are invited to eat lunch with your child on designated days. The next designated day is Friday, March 8. If you would like to purchase lunch from the cafeteria, please email cafeteria@stgabriel.net by Monday, March 4 so they can adequately prepare. Please do not bring outside food from another vendor. This event is for lunch only, not recess.
We continue to interview candidates to fill the instructional assistant positions in Kindergarten. This is a unique position, and we want to find the right fit. Angie Robbins(1st grade assistant) is also out on extended leave. Thank you to Vicki Hall and Diana Offutt for pulling double duty and rotating in different classrooms.
A Note About Next Year:
• Martha Tribbey (8th grade religion teacher) will be retiring.
• Audry Schaefer (4th grade ELA teacher) will not be returning. She is getting married this year and wants to focus on family.
• Courtney Dexter (STEM teacher) will not be returning. She will be moving out of state.
• We plan to fill the vacant instructional coach position.
• We expect some internal transition as some teachers have indicated interest in switching positions.
We will celebrate those leaving at the end of the year.
In order to appeal to the best pool of candidates, we will be posting open positions starting next week. Thank you for your prayers as we search to find great people to join our “leopardfam”!

Thank you to the 101 parish families that completed a stewardship commitment card last weekend. That’s the most we’ve received in our first weekend of the campaign in the last eight years. Remember, we want to hear from every family – whether it’s with your financial commitment, or with a commitment of volunteer hours -- we need 10,000 a year -- or a commitment of prayer -- we want 20,000 hours of prayer a year too!
Last week, you asked how much our utility bills are annually. Did you know that our school water bill is $28,599 a year and the electric bill is $90,303? We spend nearly 1 million dollars a year in facilities expenses, from utilities to snow plowing, lawn maintenance and cleaning. So, your contribution makes a difference.
Each and every one of you is a vital member of our parish community and we want to hear from you! Drop your commitment card in the baskets in the church gathering space, mail it in with the envelope provided or complete one online at www.stgabriel.net/giving.
