January 5, 2024
For more information, visit our website.
This year Saint Gabriel Parish and School are participating in "Giving Tuesday" on November 28, 2023. We will be raising funds for new lighting in the church and whiteboards for classrooms. Stay tuned for more information!
This year parents/ guardians are invited to eat lunch with your child on designated days. The next designated day is Wednesday, November 29. If you would like to purchase lunch from the cafeteria, please email cafeteria@stgabriel.net by 9 a.m. that morning. Please do not bring outside food from another vendor. This event is for lunch only, not recess.
Dear Parents/ Guardians,
It’s that time of year. The weather is turning colder, and soon it will be time to bundle up outside. We do go outside for recess even when the weather is cold so please send your child with a coat, hat, and gloves. Students need to wear a Saint Gabriel sweatshirt with their uniform. All non-uniform sweatshirts or jackets are removed when inside. Be sure to LABEL these items so they can be returned if lost.
Speaking of our lost and found, it is overflowing. Please encourage your child to check it before the break if they are missing an item.
A reminder about our closing/delay policy:
We will have 1 regular snow day before Distance Learning days start. Our distance learning policy can be found starting on page 53 of the handbook.
Lastly, cold weather means germs. Please note our school sick policy: If a student leaves due to an illness, they may not return to school until they have been symptom-free for 24 hours. These symptoms include fever, vomiting, and diarrhea. We consider a fever to be 100.4 or higher. We are required to report RSV, influenza, and Covid19 to the health department. If your child receives this diagnosis, please notify the school office at absentee@stgabriel.net. Do not hesitate to contact us with any questions or concerns!
Have a wonderful weekend,
Lara Krill
Principal
Thank you for your donations for our canned food drive! We collected over 2,100 items! Food will be used to make Thanksgiving baskets and donated to Fern Creek Highview Ministries.
It is time to start thinking about enrollment for the 2024-2025 school year. This process will be a little different this year so please read carefully.
Many of you are familiar with the FACTS Management System for tuition payments and tuition assistance applications. This year Saint Gabriel School and Preschool will be transitioning to utilizing FACTS for enrollment as well. FACTS will replace the online registration system/ mailed tuition agreements that we used in the past, and families will use your same FACTS login. The hope is to streamline the registration experience for families.

Taher, the food service business that provides lunches for St. Gabriel School, is experiencing a serious problem collecting lunch money. This situation isn’t new to us, but in full disclosure, we want you to know that things have significantly changed this school year: food prices have skyrocketed, and we discovered that we need everyone’s account payments in a timely manner so we can buy the food that feeds the kids. Taher is a private company that receives zero government funding.
Lunches should always be PREPAID, and if your student doesn’t have money in their account, we kindly ask that they bring lunches from home. We love our students very much, and we don’t ever want to be that cafeteria that denies children a lunch or embarrasses them in the lunch line. However, to run our business and pay our food and labor costs, we cannot continue to allow students to charge lunches without limit and then wait for a delayed payment. We are asking for your help and cooperation in making sure your student has funds available to them.
Effective this week, any student who owes $25 or more (the equivalent of a week’s worth of lunches) will be blocked from all additional purchases. You can check your child’s balance and transaction history anytime for free using EZPay, our online payment system. The student ID number you need is the same as their PowerSchool number.
Here is the link: www.spsezpay.com/StGabriel/login.aspx
You will also be kept up-to-date with our low balance emails and weekly negative balance letters.
IF YOU HAVE NOT BEEN RECEIVING LOW BALANCE EMAILS FROM THE CAFETERIA, PLEASE LET US KNOW ASAP SO WE CAN CHANGE OR ADD YOUR EMAIL.
To pay on your student’s account with a credit card, log on to EZPay with the above link. You may also send in a check made out to Taher, or send cash in a sealed envelope labeled with your child’s first and last name.
Any questions or concerns can be directed to me.
Thank you,
Angie Kordis

It has come to our attention that some scam text alerts and emails have been sent claiming to be from St. Gabriel School. Please note that all text messages will start with "St. Gabriel School- Alert" and end with "Reply STOP to opt out". Also, sometimes emails will look like they're from a person from our organization but the email address is random. Scammers have gotten very sophisticated so vigilance is key.
In our commitment to continuous school improvement, the Archdiocese of Louisville Office of Catholic Schools will regularly administer perception surveys, certified through Cognia©, our accrediting organization and trusted partner in school improvement. The purpose of the survey is to solicit feedback from our stakeholders. This year, as a part of our celebration of Discover Catholic Schools Week, we are asking you, as well as our faculty/staff and students (grades 5-8) to complete the Catholic Identity Program Effectiveness survey. At the end of this paragraph, you will find a link to the questionnaire. Your feedback is a valued and crucial component of our continuous improvement planning, so we thank you in advance for taking the time to thoughtfully respond to the survey which will be open until November 18.
School Board invites you to participate in a parent/guardian listening session about why you chose and continue to choose Saint Gabriel for your child's education as well as ideas to make our school even better! The session will be November 28 at 6:30 p.m. and is limited to the first 40 registrants.
St. Gabriel PTSO’s Father/Daughter dance will take place Saturday, December 2nd. Tickets are now on sale online. Tickets will only be available online and will not be available at the door the day of the event. This year we will have picture ornaments guaranteed for the first 300 girls signed up to attend the dance. The theme is Winter Wonderland and we look forward to a night of friends, music and a chocolate fountain.
When weather conditions cause school openings to be questionable, one of the following announcements will be made for the Catholic Elementary Schools in Jefferson County.
“All Catholic Elementary Schools in Jefferson County are open” – Saint Gabriel is open.
“Catholic Elementary Schools in Jefferson County will be open, but on a delayed schedule.” Saint Gabriel will be on a two-hour delay. Buses will run two hours late. Gym will open at 9:25 a.m. for student arrival. Students are not allowed in before this time. Classes will start at 10:00 a.m. Dismissal will be at regular time – 2:45 p.m.
“All Catholic Schools in Jefferson County are closed.” – Saint Gabriel is closed. In the case that Saint Gabriel is closed, Saint Gabriel Preschool will make every effort to offer full-day care for registered participants. Notification will be sent separately.
All morning activities, including detention, are cancelled for that day. Detention will be served the following scheduled day. You will also be notified via the Saint Gabriel Reach Alert program. It is the parent’s responsibility to sign up for Reach Alert and to make any changes to their account.
We will have 1 regular snow day before Distance Learning days start. You will be notified via the Saint Gabriel Reach Alert program.
