Reading to and with your child is one of the most beneficial tools for raising a successful and prolific reader. This event is open to all parents- Monday, May 5 at 6:30 p.m. in Loft 1
The month of May is a time when we honor and remember the Mother of Our Church, Mary. On Wednesday, May 7th at 8:15 am, we will be having a Mary Crowning Service in the Church! Parents and family are welcome to attend. Second graders will be leading this service, and a few of our eighth-grade students have volunteered to help the second graders lead us in the Rosary. All students (K-8) will need to bring 1 long stemmed flower to school on May 7. We will use these to place around Mary. One student from each homeroom will process in with a vase of flowers from that homeroom to adorn Mary. Please bring these flowers in on the morning of May 7, and have the students take then to their homeroom teacher.
Students are encouraged to bring their own rosaries from home the day of our crowning. If your child does not have one, their teacher will provide one the day of the service.
Safety and Emergency Preparedness
Dear Parents/ Guardians,
Safety is very important to us here at St. Gabriel. Each year, we update our emergency preparedness plan in preparation for multiple types of emergencies. While we hope that we will never need these plans, we want to be ready. We work with the Kentucky Center for School Safety, Louisville Metro Police Department, and Fire Department to ensure our plans meet or exceed current safety standards for schools. We are proud that our seasoned LMPD resource officer identified our school as “one of the most secure buildings” he’s ever visited.
Here are some of the safety measures in place at St. Gabriel:
Welcome but vigilant staff who greet all visitors and direct them to the front office
Visitor sign in and escort protocol
All outer doors are locked with keyless entry systems
Reach Alert notification system for parents and staff
Emergency drills: fire (10 times per school year), tornado, earthquake, and lockdown (4 times per school year)
All classrooms are closed and locked during the instruction
Two-way radios for administrators and staff
Emergency response kits in every classroom
AED’s posted in all campus buildings
Over 50 cameras across campus
We have developed a safety committee with representatives from all campus departments who meet monthly to update our plan as needed and determine a campus-wide approach to address current challenges. Also, all campus staff are trained in CPR/ First Aid/ AED.
Here are some reminders for parents/guardians regarding their role during an emergency situation:
Parent Alert is our emergency notification system. Please make sure you are signed up to receive alerts.
Please make sure the office has updated contact information for you and emergency contacts.
Please do not come to campus until you are directed to do so. Lanes need to be clear for emergency personnel.
In case that law enforcement is involved, they will direct administrators and staff how to proceed.
Until the emergency is resolved, parents/ guardians will not be able to sign out their child until they are released.
Once an emergency is resolved, parents/ guardians will receive instructions on how to pick up their child if needed. Please be aware that in this case a picture ID will be needed.
The key to providing a safe environment is for all stakeholders to be vigilant at all times. Thank you for your support and partnership to maintain a safe environment for our children and families.
Have a blessed day,
Lara Krill
