Saint Gabriel School Weekly Newsletter for Parents
Saint Gabriel School Weekly Newsletter for Parents
Dear Parents and Guardians,
The Archdiocese of Louisville has a stated education philosophy, which promotes a model of inclusion for children with disabilities in our schools. We believe that children with mild disabilities can be successful within the regular classroom setting when the instruction is differentiated and strategic teaching methods are utilized and appropriate accommodations are implemented. The Archdiocese of Louisville Intervention Protocol has been developed to help ensure that the learning differences of our students are effectively addressed. In addition, the protocol ensures that our principals, counselors and teachers will have the guidance and support of a consistent educational process that provides parents of students with learning differences a better understanding of how their child’s needs will be addressed.
Every school is unique in the particular resources it can provide in the regular classroom setting. A Student Strategy Plan (SSP) is written for students experiencing difficulty in the classroom and a Student Accommodation Plan (SAP) is written for students with a diagnosed disability. The Archdiocese Intervention Protocol steps can be found here.
At St. Gabriel, our vision is to "empower every child...the whole child". This includes students with mild disabilities ranging from ADHD, sensory processing disorder, to anxiety disorder as well as students who speak English as a second language. Our teachers and staff works diligently to support our students with learning differences with a variety of strategies. We currently have 85 SAP's, 9 SSP's, and 8 medical SAP's. Our reading interventionist works with 35 students in grades 2-5. Additionally, we partner with Associates in Pediatric Therapy, JCPS, and the Wright Center to offer services during the school day to 23 students. While we cannot provide the resources to serve every need, we work closely with the families and outside agencies to provide additional support. We are committed to a partnership that meets students where they are and help them grow.
We are proud that our student population is becoming more diverse and in turn, we continue to seek out solutions to help us meet the needs of our students.
If you have any questions about intervention plans, please feel free to contact me at dchancellor@stgabriel.net or (502) 239-5535 ext. 268.
Blessings,
Denise Chancellor
Learning Coordinator
Congratulations to this week's winner, 4-Cornwell!
Each Lent, Catholic families across the country unite to put their faith into action through prayer, fasting and almsgiving. Through CRS Rice Bowl, families learn about how our sisters and brothers across the globe overcome hardships like hunger and climate change, and how through Lenten alms, we have the power to make the world a better place for all.
Rice bowls were sent home this week. On Fridays during Lent, students are invited to bring in coins for our Catholic Relief Services Rice Bowl Penny Challenge. Each homeroom will have a jug in the cafeteria during morning carpool. Individual rice bowls returned the week of March 25 will earn extra points towards the homeroom total. Please label with child's name and homeroom.
March will be our 3rd annual Celebrate Our Differences month. The goal of Celebrate Our Differences month is to build awareness of populations who are different from ourselves and gain an appreciation for each other. Each grade level will hear from a guest speaker. Topics range from disabilities to diversity. For a complete schedule of speakers, click here.
Monday, April 8, 2024 will now be a Distance Learning Day for our students to allow families the opportunity to take advantage of viewing the Total Solar Eclipse! This is also the day after Spring Break, so this will extend that break another day, with students doing their work from home that day.
Teachers will post assignments on Schoology before spring break. Instructional hours for school staff on April 8 will be 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. They will be available by email if you have questions. In-person instruction will resume on Tuesday, April 9.
More information regarding Distance Learning Days can be found here.
Spring MAP testing begins April 10. Please make an extra effort to ensure your child arrives on time, eats breakfast, and has a snack on testing days. While MAP is only one snapshot of how your child is doing, it does provide valuable data to help teachers plan instruction to meet your child's learning needs and evaluate our academic program. NEW: Students may bring mints on their testing days (no gum or other candy).
Would you love to hear your child say, “Will you please read with me tonight?”
A special invitation to parents of children who attend the Book Nook. Mrs. Bunch will be sharing tips that will help make summer reading a healthy and pleasurable experience for you and your child. Reading to and with your child is one of the most beneficial tools for raising a successful and prolific reader. Mrs. Bunch will demonstrate ways that will make reading sessions with your child fun and very rewarding.
This event is open to all parents- Wednesday, April 11 at 6:30 p.m. in Loft 1

There will continue to be a full tuition rate and a rate for active parishioner families. We encourage our families to keep in mind that the actual cost to educate a student is greater than paid tuition. Therefore, to bridge that financial gap, we rely on the generous support from our parish community each year. Please be advised that to be considered an active parishioner, annual stewardship cards must be on file to receive the active parishioner tuition rate. Tuition agreements will be completed as part of the FACTS Re-enrollment process online. They will not be mailed this year.
The 2024-25 calendar is now available.
