We are excited to welcome Women's Softball Olympic Gold Medalist Leah Amico who will speak to grades 3-8 on December 12.
Dear Parents/ Guardians,
This year our school's academic focus is on creating productive struggle and appropriate challenge for our students. Teachers meet monthly to discuss in professional learning communities how best to support their students and design lessons that support productive struggle. Using MAP scores and teacher-created assessments, teachers are able to determine how students are progressing and what they are ready to learn next. The concept of productive struggle is to provide learning tasks at the right level of challenge for students- not too hard and not too easy and then supporting them as they complete tasks but allowing not giving them the answers right away. Brain research supports that the more we work with information- retireving it, making mistakes, and correcting it through feedback and practice builds neural networks of long-term memory. We also encourage students to implement growth mindset strategies to help them use self-talk that encourages a "not yet" and "try, try again" attitude.
Would you like to learn more about productive struggle? See video below where the speaker compares productive struggle to learning ride a bike or cross the monkey bars.
Have a great weekend!

Applications for the 2024-25 school year are now available!
Visit our website to apply. Preschool through 8th grade will use the same application process. Priority deadline is January 12.
It is time to start thinking about enrollment for the 2024-2025 school year. This process will be a little different this year so please read carefully.
Many of you are familiar with the FACTS Management System for tuition payments and tuition assistance applications. This year Saint Gabriel School and Preschool will be transitioning to utilizing FACTS for enrollment as well. FACTS will replace the online registration system/ mailed tuition agreements that we used in the past, and families will use your same FACTS login. The hope is to streamline the registration experience for families.
