St. Gabriel’s all-natural play park is one of our most beloved spaces. Originally opened in 2018, our Natural Playpark provides an area for early childhood development, school extracurricular activity, along with elements of environmentalism and sustainable living. It is also a place for spiritual healing and reflection and complements our prayer garden, vegetable garden, and greenhouse. And, it aligns with our goal to become a Kentucky Green School, formerly known as a Green Ribbon School Award.
As the equipment has aged, and normal wear and tear has become more evident, a need was recognized for a refresh of the play park. A multi-phase plan has been established to provide some much needed maintenance and upgrades. Please note this timeline is an estimate and is contingent upon vendor availability.
Phase 1:
A dead tree was cut down and the stump was left as another play-friendly feature for users. (completed Summer 2025)
The fences and wood equipment were pressure washed and re-stained by Dave Metry Painting. (completed Fall 2025)
Consultation with the original equipment installer for recommended new play structure and analysis of terrain and fall zone requirements (completed Fall 2025)
Phase 2:
Tears in the rubber matting on “the mountain” will be repaired. (Spring 2026)
Drainage issues have been assessed and will be addressed with new drains and water flow so water does not pool, creating areas of standing water and mud. (Spring 2026)
The stage, which has many loose and broken boards, will be removed. (Spring 2026)
Concrete will be added in the rock path to re-cement rocks that have become loose. (Spring/ Summer 2026)
Phase 3:
Composted mulch will be removed. (Summer 2026)
New equipment will be added to the north side of the grassy area as well as where the existing stage is currently located. (Summer 2026)
New mulch will be added to appropriate areas. (Summer/ Fall 2026)
This play park refresh is made possible by funding from proceeds from the 2025 gala, PTSO, and the capital projects fund. The school is also pursuing local grant opportunities to supplement this project.
Thank you for your support of this initiative. We are excited to revive this unique and beloved play space!
Winter MAP testing will be January 6, 7, and 9. K-8 will take MAP Growth in Reading and Math, and grades 3-8 will also test Language. Please make an extra effort to ensure your child arrives on time, eats breakfast, and has a snack on testing days. While MAP is only one snapshot of how your child is doing, it does provide valuable data to help teachers plan instruction to meet your child's learning needs.
It’s that time of year. The weather is turning colder, and it's time to bundle up outside. We do go outside for recess even when the weather is cold so please send your child with a coat, hat, and gloves. Students need to wear a Saint Gabriel sweatshirt with their uniform. All non-uniform sweatshirts or jackets are removed when inside. Be sure to LABEL these items so they can be returned if lost.
Bingo is one of our largest fundraisers. Funds are used to offer tuition assistance and capital projects. A schedule for this year has been created to assist with staffing volunteers to sell pull tabs. If you volunteer, your child may have a uniform break the next non-mass day!
