Thomas WELLS (1620 - 1676) and Mary BEARDSLEY (1631 - 1691)

Thomas WELLS was born about 1620 in Essex, England, the eldest child of Hugh and Frances WELLS. He probably immigrated to New England with his parents in 1635, on the Globe, along with his sister and 2 brothers, settling first in Hartford, CT. In 1651 he married Mary BEARDSLEY, daughter of William BEARDSLEY. He removed from Wethersfield, CT to Hadley, MA in 1659, where he was one of the first settlers. They had 14 or 15 children, with the first 5 born before 1659, so the family of 7 must have made the trip together.

Thomas died in 1676, between 30 Sep and 14 Dec, and his widow married Samuel BELDING, on 25 Jun 1678, as his 3rd wife.

Not to be confused with Thomas WELLES (1594-1660), who was Governor of Connecticut. This WELLES/WELLS family also resided in Hartford and Wethersfield.
