Taylor, James Jr

James TAYLOR (1669 - 1739) and Dorothy ROGERS

my 7g-grandparents

James TAYLOR was born on 25 Nov 1669, probably in Springfield, MA, the son of James TAYLOR and Mary TAYLOR. He married on 21 Feb 1704, probably in Springfield, to Dorothy ROGERS, daughter of Henry and Mary ROGERS. James and Dorothy had 6 children, probably all born in Springfield. Curiously, it seems that they were married 5 days before the birth of their first child. [JMB, Vol. II, p. 643]

Their daughter, Dorothy TAYLOR, was my 6g-grandmother. See the Nathaniel Lee 1700 page.

The English settlement of Springfield began around 1635, on the east side of the Connecticut River, and by 1650 some of the settlers had taken up residence on the west side. Springfield contained land on both sides until 1774, when West Springfield was established. Both communities were part of Hampden County when it was formed from the southern part of Hampshire County in 1812.
