De Wolf, Stephen

Stephen DE WOLF (1650-1702) and Hannah JONES (1660-1746)

my 7g-grandparents

Stephen DE WOLF was born about 1650, in Connecticut Colony, and died 17 Oct 1702. He was the son of Balthasar and Alice DE WOLF. See [ES, Vol. 2, pp. 125-133].

Stephen and his brothers Edward and Simon, and their father, Balthasar, were in a train-band, or company of militia in 1668. [CBP, p. 86] Stephen and Edward later took part in King Philip's War, 1675-8.

The first wife of Stephen DE WOLF is unknown. They had one child, Edward, born about 1686.

Hannah JONES married first, on 7 Mar 1682/3, to Mathew RANSOM, in Saybrook, CT, according to Saybrook marriage records. Mathew RANSOM was born about 1661, and died between 1686 and 1690. Hannah and Joseph had 1 child: Joseph RANSOM, b. 10 Jan 1683/4. Joseph married Jane, about 1708. They had 7 children in Lyme, and 2 of them married into the HUNTLEY family. Mary RANSOM married Peter HUNTLEY, son of John HUNTLEY and Elizabeth PEARSON. Stephen RANSOM married Susannah HUNTLEY, niece of Peter, and daughter of Joseph HUNTLEY, brother of John. See the John 4 HUNTLEY page.

Mathew may have been a son of Robert and Susanna RANSOM of Plymouth Colony. Robert RANSOM immigrated before 1654, married Susanna about 1660, and died on 14 Dec 1697, in Plymouth. Mathew RANSOM would have been the eldest of 8 children. [WCR, pp. 25-9]

Stephen DE WOLF married in 1690, as his second wife, Hannah (JONES) RANSOM, the daughter of Lewis JONES and Deborah PALMER. Hannah JONES was born in 1660 or 1668, also in Connecticut.
