Emanuel STURGES was born about 1769 in Horbling, Lincolnshire, England. He married on 04 Jul 1798 in Horbling, to Mary TWELL, who was christened 13 Mar 1774 in Osbournby, Lincolnshire, England, daughter of Robert and Ann TWELL.

Horbling, the ancestral home of the STURGES family, is a village in southern Lincolnshire, England. The village of Osbournby is about 3 miles to the northwest, and Hacconby is 7 miles south of Horbling. See the maps on the the William STURGES and John MARTIN pages.

Emanuel and Mary had at least 4 children, in Horbling. It seems that the family moved from Horbling to Hacconby sometime between 1805 and 1822.

In 1841, Mary lived with her son-in-law and granddaughter. Her husband Emanuel and daughter Ann are probably deceased, since they are not present. This census doesn't give marital status.

1. William STURGES was christened on 6 Jul 1799 in Horbling, and died in Jan 1855 in Hacconby. He married on 30 Dec 1822 in Hacconby, to Elizabeth MARTIN, who was christened 31 Aug 1803 in Hacconby, and died in Mar 1855 in Hacconby.

2. Jane STURGES was christened on 6 Oct 1800 in Horbling, and died in May 1873 in Hacconby. She married on 17 Jun 1822 in Hacconby, to William MARTIN, who was born about 1801 in Hacconby, and died 5 Aug 1866 in Hacconby.
