Belden, Richard

Richard BELDEN (1591 - 1657) my 10-g-grandfather

Richard BELDEN/BELDING/BAILDON was born in Kippax, York County, England, and baptized on 26 May 1591. He was the son of Robert BAILDON and Margaret GOODRICK. In 1613, still in England, he took an oath of allegiance, with the intention of becoming a soldier under Captain George Blundell. He married and had children in England, but nothing is known about his wife. His son, Samuel, who was my 9g-grandfather.

Richard and his brother William immigrated to America, presumably with their families, and settled in Wethersfield, Colony of Connecticut, where Richard spent the rest of his life. The date of immigration is unknown, but Richard was allotted eight tracts of land by the town on February 7, 1641, and appeared in several later records. He was admitted as a freeman in 1657, and probably died shortly thereafter. Besides Samuel, he had sons William and John, born in England.
