Johann Christian HINT (1769 - 1865) and Margaretha Maria EGGERT (1770 - aft. 1820)

Johann Christian HINT was born about 1769, son of Julius Hinrich Christoph HINT and Ilsabe Dorothea LASSEN, and lived in the small village of Boddin, Mecklenburg, Germany. He died on 20 Mar 1865, and was buried 23 Mar 1865, in Boddin.

The death record says Johann was born about 1769, but the 1819 Census for Boddin has his birthdate as 18 Dec 1773. I find the 1773 date doubtful, since their first child was born about 1786.

Johann married Margaretha Maria EGGERT on 25 Oct 1796, at the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Boddin.

Margaretha Maria EGGERT was born 25 Mar 1770 in Boddin, daughter of Hans EGGERT. So she was 26 and Johann was 31 when they married. They had their first child 10 years before their marriage, when they were about 21 and 16.

(There was another Margaretha EGGERT in Boddin, born about 1773 and died 24 Aug 1796. That must be another Margaretha, because this one was married 2 months later.)

I have not found the date of Margaretha's death, but her youngest child was born about 1820, when she was about 50.

Boddin, Mecklenburg

In the 1855 map above, Gnoien is left of center. Boddin was a small village on the southwest side of Gnoien. The former municipalities

Boddin and Lühburg were merged into Walkendorf in May 2019. Lühburg and Basse were small villages between Tessin and Gnoien. The Baltic Sea is to the north, less than 40 km from Gnoien. The mouth of the Oder River, which separates modern Germany from Poland, is on the right.

The period from 1806 until 1813 in Mecklenburg became known as the “Franzosentid,” or the period of the French occupation. Napoleon's troops caused great hardship among the people.

The HINT Family of Boddin

Christian and Margaretha had at least 6 children, from 1786 to 1820. They lived all their lives in Boddin, as far as I can tell.

Sophia Elisabeth HINT

Sophia Elisabeth HINT was born about 1786, and died 23 Jan 1863, in Basse, near Boddin, at age 77. She married twice.

At age 29, Sophia Elisabeth HINT married (1) Johann EHRICH on 10 Nov 1815 in Boddin. The marriage record gives her an additional middle name, Margaretha.

At age 48, Sophia Elisabeth HINT married (2) Ludolph Friederich CHUR on 14 Nov 1834, in Basse.

Hanna Margaretha Dorothea HINT

Hanna Margaretha Dorothea HINT was born 20 Jun 1797 in Boddin. If this is the right person, she later went by the name Margaretha.

Margaretha HINT married Christian SPENCKER on 25 May 1818 in Boddin.

Maria Ilsabeth Christiana HINT

Maria Ilsabeth Christiana HINT, known as Maria, was born 25 Aug 1802 in Boddin, and died 9 Jul 1860, in Boddin. She married Johann Friederich SASS on 19 Oct 1825 in Boddin.

Johann Jochim Christopher HINT

Johann Jochim Christopher HINT was born 9 Mar 1805 in Boddin, and died 13 Oct 1871 in Vilz (seems to be associated with Thelkow, Mecklenburg).

Johann Jochim HINT married Catharina Margaretha STEIN on 31 Oct 1828 in Boddin.

Christina Sophia Hinrica HINT

Christina Sophia Hinrica HINT was born 17 or 19 Feb 1808 in Boddin. She died 3 Jun 1872 and was buried in Gnoien, near Boddin.

She married Christian Friedrich SCHLEIFF. There were two men in Boddin with that name. One was born 4 Nov 1801 in Boddin, son of Johann Friederich SCHLEIFF and Catharina Maria REINHOLD/REINKOLD, and died 26 Sep 1871, buried in Gnoien. The other was born 30 Dec 1806 in Boddin, son of Friedrich SCHLEIFF and Magdalena Juliana JENDRIAN/JERYAHN, and died 17 May 1856, buried in Basse.

Peter Johann Friedrich HINT

Peter Johann Friedrich HINT was born about 1820, and died 10 Aug 1852, age 32, buried in Thulendorf. He must have been a surprise, as he was born 12 years after his nearest sibling, when his mother was about 50.
