Ashley, David

David ASHLEY (1642 - 1718) and Hannah GLOVER (1646 - 1722)

my 8g-grandparents

David ASHLEY was born on 3 Jun 1642 in Springfield, Massachusetts Bay Colony, son of Robert and Mary ASHLEY. David ASHLEY died 8 Dec 1718 in Westfield, MA, age 70. He married Hannah GLOVER on 24 Nov 1663 New Haven, Colony of New Haven. The gravestones in the Westfield cemetery are hard to decipher, but it appears that Hannah died in 1722, at age 76. [AG, p. 23] So she was born about 1646.

Hannah was the daughter of Henry and Helena GLOVER, of New Haven. [HMB, Vol. II, p. 521] He was 21 and she was about 17 when they married. They settled first is Springfield, where their 1st and possibly 2nd child were born. In 1667 they were among the earliest settlers in Westfield, just 7 or 8 miles west of Springfield. They had 11 children, and lived the rest of their lives in Westfield.

In 1669, with Joseph WHITING, he had a grant of land on Sacket’s Creek for a mill. In 1672 and 1690 he was chosen Constable of Westfield. He was Selectman 8 times; in 1690, Highway Surveyor, and the first Town Clerk in 1693. [JHL, Vol. I, p. 99]

"David was the ancestor of Franklin Delano Roosevelt, J.P. Morgan and Clint Eastwood." [DA]
