May 03, 2016 1956X Work Session

A great turnout so I could not keep track of what everyone was doing but I know a lot of work was done.

Art, Connie, Dick Chambers and Ron Elzinga spent the day perfecting the door fit as well as the body fit to get perfect alignment of the doors as well as the body on the frame. They discovered that the body was too high in the rear and not in perfect alignment with the car's frame so they also worked on that.

Del worked on helping others throughout the day.

Chuck Snow worked on the computer looking at different ways to design the linkage from the accelerator pedal to the carburetor linkage. And after making many measurements Jerry Bush figured out how to build this linkage. He intends to fabricate what he can at home and then finish the job next week in the barn.

Jim Baker has completed the linkage for one of the seats to run the powered head rest up and down. He will then proceed to the other front seat. From there he still has the rear seats to do as all the seats had powered head rests.

The modifications of the air inlet chambers for the cabin heat and fresh air was finished today and these two units was bolted in place. That presented another new packaging challenge for the windshield washer fluid container with its pump. Jerry Bush and Dick Chambers worked out a location for this. Also I believe Ron was involved in this discussion. So much going on I could not keep up.

Jerry Boonstra was involved in helping several people and their projects.

Al Batts did his duty of recording through his photos. We also had the whole group take a group photo of us just before lunch. A magazine in Europe (Swedish?) has requested a photo of the guys that worked on the Futurliner. Most of this crew worked on that vehicle. So those in Europe can look forward to that article. I will get the name of the magazine from Al for next week.

Our goal is to have the car in the paint shop which is only a couple of miles from here. We will see!

We had about 5 different visitors today. They come periodically to see our progress. Dave, one of the visitors shows up in his 1954 Buick Skylark. It looks like it came right out a barn. Although it needs everything it has no rust through and it is being driven with its original engine a good old Buick 322 Nail head. It’s not pretty but it is drivable.
