1917 Buick (No photographs.) Del and Jerry after taking apart the broken distributor last week and getting delivered a complete spare distributor from Dean in North Carolina. Once both distributors were disassembled then the broken internal parts on the 1917 Buick were identified. Extensive photographs were taken so that the original distributor can be repaired. The distributor from NC was installed and the cars was started late in the day but again would not run for any length of time. Vacuum readings were taken at cranking speed and recorded. Next the 1929-44 Buick in the barn was started and vacuum readings were recorded. Again we are not getting sufficient vacuum for the 1917 Buick to run. The following day I dropped off the Zenith carburetor to CD's since he is the one that provided it and the fact that he had a carb kit at his shop for rebuilding this carb.
As usual Al with his handy dandy camera continues to make a photographic record of this restoration.
Photos #1 & #2 show Connie and Art preparing the inside of the 56X hood. They both decided that the edges of the inside needed repainting along the edges for a show car
appearance.
Photo #3 show Jim Baker and Ken Tuinstra looking at how to run the wiring for the right powered bucket seat. Ken in less than a month has designed the electrical circuit for the
two powered bucket seats that includes the 6 way motion, the rotating motion, and the safety circuit that prevents the seats from rotating if the car doors are closed.
Photo #4 shows the wiring diagram for these powered bucket seats. Today the wiring was all connected up and the first trial to see if things worked as designed. Yes, everything worked!
Photo #5 and #6 show Don F. and Dick Chambers as they polish a portion of the manifold. These are the extensions on which the YH Side Draft carburetors are bolted.
Photo # 7 & #8 shows another piece of trim being prepared for chrome plating.
Chuck Snow located the under body light fixtures that illuminate the ground when either of the doors are opened. He made a template for the lens and also determined the size and type
of light socket. They will be picked up next week and assembly continued. If you recall we had one original light fixture and Chuck fabricated a second to replace the missing one.
Ron E. returned from vacationing in warm Florida. He started the process of assembling one of the driving lights that fit inside the bumper bombs. He made good progress on this assembly.
We were missing the two spark plug covers and Bill Nasburg out in the State of Washington donated two. Thanks, Bill! He has supplied parts in the past.
Don M. worked on the attachment system for the rotating bucket seat surrounds that Bill Nasburg had previously supplied. Connie, Art, and Chuck S. have been repairing these surrounds
as they had some places where they had cracks. In addition they had to provide the location for all the operating electrical switches.
We need to continue to pray for those in our work group who have health issues along with spouses that also have health issues.
