Subject: 56 X BUICK SESSION SEP 24 2013
VOLUNTEERS : Jim Baker, Al Batts, Bob Boorsma, Del Carpenter, Dick Chambers, Connie DeJong, Ron Elzinga, Don Feutz, Don Mayton, Art Meidema, Dick Saddler, Chuck Snow.
Don Mayton on the previous day, Monday, made a round trip to Toledo, Ohio to pick up a load of chrome plated parts from Craig Riker who has a metal finishing and chrome plating business.
You can see from photograph 01 & 02 the perfect results of all those above who prepared the metal for chrome and Craig Riker's company in plating the front bumper bombs. Outstanding work!
Photos 03 & 04 & 05 shows Bob Boorsma on the left and Chuck Snow on the right as they fit a dash panel to the body in order to better support the steering column in the correct position. This was being done to insure the proper position of the steering wheel for final bucket seat placement.
Photo 06 shows Connie grinding a 1/4 rear window frame in preparation for chroming.
Photo 07 shows Don Feutz's hands as he finishes the preparation of this inner tail light housing. At the end of the work session this part was packaged for shipping to Craig Riker. We are accumulating parts for delivery to Craigs business later.
Photo 08 shows Dick Saddler as he works on one of the 1/4 window frames.
Photo 09 show Ron Elzinga and Dick Chambers fitting the bumper extensions on the frame. These mounting brackets were modified at GM's styling center to accommodate the modified front bumper assembly.
Photo 10 shows the ignition key that came with this car. The head of the key has the exact BUICK EMBLEM that is the front emblem on my 1942 Buick Sedanette, model 56S. Does someone have a history of these special Buick ignition keys?
Chuck worked at fitting the front center console. After some modification Chuck has it positioned in between the two rotating front bucket seats.
Don worked on some wiring to be able to make it easier to test these front rotating 6 way power seats. Jim Baker has changed the gearing on the right front bucket seat to slow it down as well as give it more power. He is now reassembling this seat for final positioning as well as mounting it at its final location.
The rear bumper was also picked up from Craig Riker's chrome plating business. Again, an outstanding job. However the lower portion of this rear bumper has the dark blue painted on the lower 2/3's of the bumper. Connie, Art, and others worked on preparing the chrome in order to spray on the acid etch primer in order to paint the color coat on the lower portion of this bumper.
Bob has been assembling the instrument panel part by part. The radio is now been restored by a local man and has to be picked up Monday. One remaining part has arrived for the power antenna from Viriginia.
1929 55X Del has been addressing the items remaining on the 1929 Buick. Del has all the wiring issues addressed except the turn signals. Del did find some lights had to have their circuits improved due to poor grounding due to painted parts.
