Subject: 56X BUICK SESSION FEB 19 2013

VOLUNTEERS – Al Batts, Jerry Bush, Don Mayton, Art Meidema

NOTE: You might wonder why such a small group. Three of our 1956X restorers were in Florida on separate trips looking for some warmer weather but the real reason here was the weather. We had been warned of rain turning to ice and then high winds with snow. For a change the weather man was correct. We had the rain turning to ice, blizzard conditions with the wind howling all day blowing horizontal. Most of the area schools were closed and as the day progressed it never got better, in fact it got worse. Even as bad as the weather was Chuck ventured out but had to turn around due to extremely icy roads.

Al was the first to arrive bringing with him the dough nut family. Included in the family was the bear claw twin brothers, cousin chocolate sprinkles, and cousin white icing, the plain Jane girls, uncle glazed over from the evening before and Aunt Sour dough.

Photo #1, #2 & #3. These photos show the head light buckets. 1/3 of this part is completely rusted away in the first photo. Although we have a parts car we could only locate one other head light bucket. Later after everyone was gone I managed to find the other two missing head light buckets.

Photo #4 shows all the small pieces that we salvaged off of the existing head light buckets to be cleaned up, rust removed and to be brought back to a new condition.

Photos #5 through #10. These series show Art working on the restoration of the Buick’s “J” bars that go on the corners of the rear bumpers. These “J” bars had a lot of repair made. You can see from the photos that these parts are getting close to being ready to be sent to the chrome plating shop.

Jerry continued to gather up the hardware and plumbing for the convertible top mechanism.

Don worked at the disassembly of the head light buckets.

Since this work session we have had snow daily. I hope next Tuesday is better.
