1956X BUICK CENTURY Work Session 10-12-2010
Another great work session with 12 volunteers; Mike Ball, Al Batts, Bob Borsma, Del Carpenter, Connie DeJong, Les Dewey, Ron Elzinga, Don Mayton, Art Meidema, Dick Saddler, Chuck Snow, and Rick Sorgen.
One crew of Connie, Les, Ron, and Art tackled the chassis and completely stripped it of all components. This included all attachments includling the "U" shaped frame reinforcements around the openings of the unusual rocker dual side exhausts.
Then they started the job of sanding and smoothing the paint.
A portion of this same crew disassembled all parts attached to the differential.
It was noted that the special color "red" on the frame matched the "red" accent of the seat and door panel trim.
Mean while another crew of Bob, Del, Chuck, and Don worked on rearranging the barn to provide room to install a wall separating the hydraulic hoist area from the rest of the storage barn. The purpose of doing this is so that when work is required on the hoist that in the dead of winter this area can be heated so that work can be performed.
Chuck also worked on attaching the wood bows on the 1929-55X Buick Sport Touring.
Dick worked on the installing the cowl braces on the 1929-55X. He completed this job and moved onto the installation of the flooring.
Rick worked at organizing the storing the parts that are unique to the 1956X Buick Century. He managed to find many more original parts. In addition he has spent numerous hours doing research and contacting people that have some knowledge of this car or worked in GM's Styling Studio when this car was built.
Al as usual has taken many photos for the historical record of the restoration as well as a guide for reassemblying of the car.
Mike worked at catching up to the Futurliners financial records.
