2014-04-15 Description
This is the second set of photographs of the Buick 56X work session. The first set were of the unique "cam-o-matic" windshield shield wiper arms and blades that you cannot find any reproductions in all the catalogs that I own. The arms have a special cam that swings the arm around the "Pana-ramic-windshield". It also has a built in piece of plastic that serves as a bearing to keep wear down. I had Al take these photos in search of a good set of original  blades and arms. Those pictures when to Bill Nasburg out in the State of Washington who has become a source of unique parts that we need to acquire to due this restoration.Â
Today Ron worked on several jobs including cleaning up the wiper arms. In a pinch we will be able to use one wiper arm. We do not have any good blades and the local parts store have none nor can they get them. Of the catalogs I have none have the type of blades that are required for this car.
On the back side of some of the original upholstery I found the SO for this car SO-90022 along with a note on the type of seam stitching that stated "FRENCH SEAM". My wife being one that makes clothes and of course fixed any clothes understood what a French Seam is and explained to me how it is done.
The photos with the bolt against the wheel of the Buick D-45 is a result of a visitor who needs four of these studs these studs?
Don F. and Dick C. today worked on the small arms that are a part of the linkage for the custom 4 carb manifold. They are making good progress on these rocker arms.
Jim Baker demonstrated today the mechanism he created to make the power head rest. He ran the head rest mechanics up and own for us under power. Now he has to find enough parts to make three more as the car had four power operated head rests.
Bob worked on some of his parts for the steering wheel assembly preparing them for chrome plating.
Buick D-45 work progressed to the point that Del and Jerry has it running good on a 6 cylinders. They announced that next week we will be taking it for a drive. They had to clean up some details like finishing the gas tank installation and putting some gasoline into the tank.
Al as usual does his job of photographs to keep a continues log of the restoration progress.
Connie and Art did a barn search for all the windshield trim pieces and did find them all. Now the big job of cleaning them up, polishing each piece and also preparing some for chrom plating, and repairing dents.
Chuck brought the fiber glass rear seat insert and fitted it between the rear seats after doing some serious alterations with its backing plate with a saber-saw. Also prior to that Art and Connie and Chuck worked on using bondo and filler to continue to smooth out the fiber glass so that like all the exposed surfaces it will be glass smooth for final painting.
Don M. worked on the driver's bucket seat surround.
Dean and Josh worked on updating my computer to a g-mail program for sending and receiving e-mails. Of course when changes are make there is always an uphill learning curve for me which I manage to struggle through.
