Subject: 56X BUICK SESSION DEC 11 2012
Volunteers: Jim Baker, Al Batts, Bob Boorsma, Jerry Bush, Del Carpenter, Dick Chambers, Connie DeJong, Ron Elzinga, Don Feutz, Don Mayton, Art Meidema, Dick Saddler, Chuck Snow.
Our photographer, Al, as usual continues to document, then print, and then file the many photographs. These constantly come in handy when assembling parts or other work. Thanks Al for the great job you do and always faithful each and ever work day.
The first two photos shows Dick Saddler working on preparing a driving light for chrome plating. These castings were made from the one original that was remaining and done by Ryan DeVries at his shop. Also to the right is the front bumper in its party assembled condition. We are assembling each piece to make sure it fits the next piece. We want all pieces to fit prior to paint.
The 3rd and 4th photos show the front bumper partly assembled and the large holes in the “Dagmar’s” will house the driving lights, one of which Dick Saddler is working on.
The 5th and 6th photos show Jim Baker doing some positioning of the passenger (right) bucket seat. Working on this today in addition to Jim was Chuck Snow. Chuck is building at home the center front and rear consoles as well as the rear panel that goes behind the rear bucket seats and to get accurate dimensions for this major project the seat positions must be accurate. Since both of the front bucket seats rotate the seats must also clear both the consoles as well as the inside door and rear upholstered inner panels.
Art and Connie worked at preparing and painting some small metal pieces.
Chuck Snow worked at preparing the rear metal panel that supports the rear seat cushions that was fabricated from steel. Chuck then painted the metal panel with primer to keep it from rusting as it will later be covered with fiber glass.
Don Feutz and Don Mayton continue to prepare small trim pieces for the chrome plating.
Don Feutz in early January 2013 will be having back surgery and we must pray for successful surgery and healing.
Del, taking the information supplied by Rick Sorgen, and then accumulated the correct fasteners, and sand blasted them. The next step will be painting them. Del has also gathered up a lot of parts from one of our parts cars that were labeled by the person that took the car apart years ago. That has been a big help.
Bob Boorsma has been accumulating all the parts that go into the instrument panel, cleaning them, sand blasting where necessary and then painting them. Bob will be heading for places south for the next few months.
Jerry Bush was pitching in whenever help was needed.
I took the front bumper over to our local sandblaster and he had it done the same day. It will now go to the chrome shop for striping and we are also taking the bumper bombs only to have the first application of copper so we can do further work on them.
